I haven't tried it myself, don't know if it works on leather or not.
If not. 45 min to repair + 1.5 hour for the threaded needle and it's around 20% per repair
I left out some details but around 10 hours to go from 0 to 100%. Can you build a new item from the broken scraps in less than 10 hours? Maybe depending on the item. Clearly not a huge advantage though. To be a valid feature in the game, I think it should be a clear advantage that you don't have to do the math to to find out. If it repaired 30-40% each time, it would be an obvious thing to do without bringing out a calculator.
[edit: it does take less time if you have chair and bench, making it much more worth it]
Repair works on leather (and on almost all of the non-craftable starting clothing, as well). A bone needle takes 15 min to make and lasts for 3 repairs (although each one will require a separate cord), and you will end up with a surplus of bird bones, so it's worth making some of them into needles to repair your more valuable items.
Crafting a new leather vest takes two sections of 45 minutes, and that assumes you already have all the leather you need on hand, which takes a very long time to get if you don't, and you need for other, likely more important, projects.
Perhaps it could use a slight buff, but I think I prefer repairing my leather stuff every once in a while and saving my leather for other things, even if it might take more time overall.
Important note regarding clothing repair, the amount repaired appears to be a static value, which means that more durable clothes will regain a smaller percentage per thread but the patch job should wear out at roughly the same rate. I feel it is worth it resource wise to maintain your starting clothes even if the t-shirt can be replaced with the crafted shirt. It takes approximately 4 threads to repair to full and lasts longer while the crafted one already uses 6 not including the large cloth.
It would be nice if this was also possible for other pieces of clothing, even if it took a small time-tick.
