Open the JSON file and search for (Pop_Macaque). If "BaseValue" is 0, then they are extinct.
You can also edit that value if you want to bring them back. Setting it to 1000.0 should give you one macaque.
Playing as the tourist and was having a really good run.
Apparently my Macaques harressed me to extinction. I only defended myself when they entered my plane and mostly killed them. I only had 1 injured one, which died, because I ran out of water to give him...
And now on day 75 I noticed the den is empty and that the pop is zero. So every single macaque threw himself at me without flinching and dooming their species. Oh well.
Its kind of cheating to now change the save game, but then again, its kind of unrealistic that every last one had only desire: harrass me until death.
