Candles also don't give off heat. Fires and camp fires do. If spending hours in caves, I personally find it's better to use candles.
I also seem to remember that candles last longer. Not sure on that though.
Candles allow you to do things at Night time/Darkness be it Diving or exploring, spear fishing at night time. Basically when you need a portable light source.
Candles also last for about 9 ish hours per stick, at 3% per 15 minutes. So basically if you make at least two or three bee skeps you will rarely need firewood for other than cooking. I mean you can basically nap at Midnight 24:00-0:00 if you want to be productive.
Candles pretty much saves you fire wood and time outside cooking at night. (yes it's tedious to extinguish and relight the candle at times when you're cooking at night making smoked or dried herbs in the stove) also remember to chain light Tinder materials if you're tight on resources or firewood when exploring and you need a fire starter immediately. (Example you wanna start a camp fire at the Bay and you have a Kiln/Advance Kiln still running (4 charcoals is 24 hours fuel while it is unlit 6 hours per charcoal so...) You just take something like bird feathers, fiber, wood shavings and light that at the Kiln and go to the Beach for a fire starter, if it's further then bring additional tinder relight another tinder at 33% so it doesn't go out just in case you have an encounter and need to fight/hunt or escape/ignore.
I've also read you can fight animals with torches now so.... Not sure how effective that will be for Boars or Macaques, hmmm maybe even Lizards or Snakes 🤔.
Not sure why you directed this to me. I know what candles do - I wasn't asking.
