Reservior and bugs
Just noticed they added managing bugs to it.... how do you deal with this?

If you're talking about how bug population is increased +1 per reservoir, I'm pretty sure that's been a thing for a while, I don't think it's new and I don't think you can do anything to directly affect that increase. The rate of bug bites is increased, but can still do the normal things to handle them.

The cistern currently does not increase bug population and holds twice the amount of water than the reservoir. Too bad we can't destroy/dismantle reservoirs after building a cistern.

If that's not what you were referring to, sorry. Could you elaborate?

Ah read about the bug thing ..... what i am seeing must be part of a mod....

637.2/672 mosquito protection -1 base (estimate 638t/6d15h)

so I got less than a week to figure out how to stop mosquito's from laying eggs in my reservoir or figure out which mod it is and what to do.... lol

In the base game, reservoirs do increase the bug population of the area. You are supposed to be able to add oil to a reservoir to decrease this effect, but I have not experimented with this myself.

Ah..... I'll test this.... if this is base game sounds like it needs to be done fairly often x.x that is a pain ..... is there some way to protect it otherwise like... you know covering it?

That's new to me. Was that a recent addition or just recently revealed? I haven't played since January, but I tried to keep up on patch notes and don't remember seeing it. I'll have to check again.

Just tried it and it does indeed add "mosquito protection" for a week, only using 50 oil (cooked coconut milk) and reducing bug population by -1.

Old secret feature of adding coconut oil to make a thin film protection for bugs. Too bad you can't use melted fat oils though in later games fat piles up even with TNT/Dynamite production and then it's just funny from there since you just dynamite fish to feed the animal feeders. 😂 No way can you ever fish 16-20 in a day normally and Pigs eat so much.

That explains my problem... ok, that was it, i am deinstalling this now.
Life's too short for this.

What's the problem? The oil you put in the reservoir last for quite a while. It doesn't even take that much of oil.

the problem is oil is not an early game thing, and if you have the farm start you start with a resevior in an area that already has bugs.... it soon turns into a MASSIVE bug problem if you can't fast track early game oil some how just for this. The masive bug problem is a hudge hit to your psyche
There's plenty of other ways to deal with bugs. Try to keep indoors when it is sunny out - rain will surpress the bugs. Burn snakegrass and eat lemongrass for the bug repellent effect. Once you get herbology skill up you can make aloe to help with the bites and eventually bug repellent and citronelle candles. Do note that washing yourself will wash away the bug repellent and aloe, so wash up first before applying the gels.

All you need is a coconut and a fire. Break open the coconut, extract the meat, apply the coconut meat to the shell to get coconut milk, boil the milk until it turns into oil (IIRC you need to combine both of the small batches of milk that you get from a single piece of coconut meat to have enough for the boil-into-oil step to work correctly).
