Questions about shark fight

I was waiting for day 120 to end my farmer run and I thought.. why not hunt a shark?
So I tried to hunt it for from day 90 to 120 and my spear went to 0 to 60% (fighting shark, macaques and training) but I only managed to hurt it superficially or it was a success hit but didnt hurt it
I was using a copper spear and full leather gear and shield but I failed to hurt it and I always got bitten several times so I wasted so many time healing from that bites

-It is mandatory to use the harpoon to hunt it? Since I decided on a whim to hunt it and I had 0% spearfishing and 0% spearfighting I thought it was such a chore to level up spearfishing to unlock the harpoon so I kept trying with my copper spear

-it was better to level up both of them? I said it was a chore but remember that farmer starts pretty far away from the beach and I started at day 90 and I had 30 days to hunt it since I wanted to finish that run at day 120 (I had to fed my animals and myself)

-Do I need a higher spearfighting skill to have a small chance to hunt it? I got the feeling that I hurt it (even tho superficially) more often the lower level of spearfightig I had (lol), I know Im pretty unlucky in games but in 4 attemps on level over 50% of spearfighting I didnt even hurt it (I at least hurt it superficially on lower levels)

Spear fighting or Spear fishing works against shark hunts especially with Harpoon, the harpoon is designed specifically for Underwater fights like the Sea Hounds also. Any other spear is better off used to hunt on land animals, although the harpoon kinda feels better than the flint spear at times for me when used on land animals if not using scrap,copper or obsidian.

Spearfighting skill and the copper spear is fine against sharks. The harpoon might be better, but I think your major problem is lack of skill. The shark is one of the tougher animals in the game, so fighting it at 0% skill is not a good idea. Even 60% skill is pretty low. So you may not have time to level up enough to get it done by day 120, unless you are willing to just keep trying and hope to get lucky.
