Bees
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. Harvested the beehive and put the harvested bees and stuff into my bee skep... except they all died off due to 'not enough' flowers in my area.... but now i can no longer find any beehives. Do i just keep searching the area where the beehive was until i RNG into a new one? Or am i done and cannot progress? Also how many flowers do these insects need?

I have read 20 flowers per skep. I would like to hear from others what flowers count as "flowers". I know China Rose and Jasmine for sure but there is potentially Spider, Wevil, ...?

I've read people say you will eventually find another one in that area, but is rare. I personally have never found more than the one, but that doesn't mean anything.

One skep needs 14 flowers to be self-sufficient, but won't generate any extra honey until you either have more than 14 flowers or feed them sugar water so they won't eat any of the honey they generate.

Just the China Rose and Jasmine. Nothing else affects them.

Animals and Plants have a preset and max population at the start of the game.

For example, there are 4 Aloe Vera plants in the Bay area which are also represented as 4000 in one of the mods I am using.

Everytime you find one plant while exploring the area, this population count drops by 1000. Then it slowly starts climbing back to 4000 again.

This 4000 is also the upper limit, which means they don't grow indefinitely, unless you explore the area from time to time and discover new plants and drop population count below 4000.

Population growth is slow in this game, which means you need to wait until the population of the plant you are talking about reaches at least 1000.

Check the Nexus mods. You'll find the one I am talking about. It helps a lot.

I have found at least two several times, but it might take you quite a while to find the second one. I also had three at the same time once, when I couldn't be bothered to keep bees.

Any advice for someone who has 100% explored the deep jungle and not found a single beehive? It's really slowing down my new farmer run, been exploring it for at least 7 days or longer since completion.

Wild beehives in Deep Jungle is kinda rare to stack with the population limit meter, it's easier to find one, accidentally empty it and search one later. @Hana it's just rare to find too early, you will need to keep exploring a bit more, I think it tends to pop up faster the more Jasmine flower cards in that area, I've only found mine after like 5 Jasmine flower stacks.

Oh, I thought you were supposed to find one garunteed before 100% explored, I didn't realize it was tied to wild jasmine flowers, I'll try, thanks!

I always front-load my beekeeping. Plant 2 crops of Jasmine wherever you intend to keep them, and plant another two before you expand to a second skep. This gives you plenty for 2 skeps and extra for candles and necklaces.
On the subject of wild bees, I have found at least 2 in every game, but I usually stop exploring the Deep Jungle after locating the first hive and the secret valley.

Yeah the Deep Jungle doesn't really offer much other than initial crop starters and Jasmine flowers once you made a bee skep. Although it could work as a hunting/trapping ground midway for Secret Valley base. My favorite home is Mangroves on Dry and normal season though, pretty much all herbal plants and flowers grow better there like Wetlands, grasslands you can put Chili,Aloe Vera,Lemon grass, maybe put the Skeps there too, I haven't actually built a bee skep in Mangrove cause I think they will get wrecked after a storm.

Wetlands is usually a decent Stormy season base/outpost and where I usually put pens. Not sure if Grasslands enclosures get raided by Monitor lizards so not worth the risk versus time investment.

This is about my 20th play-through and I decided to try my hand at bee farming. I thought I was being wise building the bee skep inside of an enclosure (to protect them against storms), but that turned out to be a huge mistake. I have jasmine growing in the wetlands, but the bees can't get to them over the enclosure walls I guess. I kept wondering why they were not producing any honey, even though I dutifully fed them sugar water every day. :( It won't let you put a crop plot inside of an enclosure, and it won't let you move a bee skep once it's set up, so the poor bees in my enclosure will just have to die off.

After hoofing it through the Deep Jungle for about a week, I mercifully found a second wild bee hive, so this time I will build it next to my flower beds and hope for the best during the next wetlands storm I encounter. Live and learn, I guess.

Only Coastal Areas get Storm damages though so The Bay,Beach,The Rocks, Bird Rock island, The Secret Cove, Mangrove, Desolate Beach will get affected Anywhere else is safe. I haven't tried making a Bee skep in Coastal Areas though, even though I have China Rose beds in Mangroves for Medical/Diet use.

Wetlands has no coast, but still has plenty of strong storms.

I've never had to take shelter or lost any items to a storm in the wetlands. Trust me, your bees are fine outside. I've had hives in the wetlands and western grasslands during storms and never lost anything.
Philtre Aug 16, 2023 @ 2:40pm
I usually build my home in the Jungle's Edge, which is affected by storm damage / stuff blowing away even though it is not directly on the coast, and the bee skeps are fine. The storms don't affect them at all.
