Has anyone actually speedrun the game?
I'd like to get the Speed Running achievement but man it seems impossible even with starting with a bunch of perks; since to get your destiny to build a raft (the other destiny doesn't work since it needs to to reach day 120), you have to do a bunch of stuff which takes a lot of time. And sailing on the raft itself adds to the total run days. How did people speedrun, which tasks are fastest to complete? Just fully exploring the island?

I have. It's not too hard (or wasn't before the food changes).

Survivalist gear (for the axe and camp stove - AKA the best firestarter), Sailor, Courage, Night Vision, Specialized Kidneys, Macaque Curse and start in the Plane Crash (it gives you a good base, plus extra starting gear) with all skills and a survival trunk 3000, plus all the perks for health and safety (pain tolerance, bug resistance, loner, optimist, etc). Start cutting palms in the Bay (but just leave them as fallen trees) and harvesting skin and fiber for the raft ASAP. Anything you need that requires a Hide (waterskins, drum), try to use reptile.
Unlocking the raft is key, so get out there and explore like crazy (usually I work through the lower coast - Bay, Jungle, Grassland, Mangroves). You also need a lot of hide, so kill every monkey you can (scrap spear will get the job done). Avoid fighting pigs directly for safety reasons (unless you invest in a sling, which is OP at boar killing), but setting up a log trap in the Wetlands or Jungle will get you some good leather. I usually salt the first boar I kill and stash the meat for the trip home.
I usually leave my mammal skins in the Jungle to cure, as they won't be stolen by monkeys or storms, along with ropes and some extra long sticks. As soon as the wet season ends (day 60), clean the branches, assemble the raft and set sail once you are ready (don't forget your flares and signal mirror). Try to be in the water by day 75 to leave time to sail home.

He's refering for the achievement so u need to escape before day 60, u need to be a lot quicker than this, but he got most of points right

In my case I escaped in my second attempt so im not expert but I did it just fine with this:
- Used every positive perk (sailor, Courage, Night Vision, Specialized Kidneyssuper, etc.) + survival trunk + military set in the crashed plane in wetlands + macaque curse, Used the military set since it gives a sweet knife and a gun, so try to quickly make your way trough wetlands to bay and use the gun in every boar u see, in my first week I catched 5 (if u get hurt by them just restart since u wont make it otherwise, thats why I suggest to make a fast run to the bay to not waste to many days in case u have to restart
- While u are in the westlands u may have some problems with water but try to boil the water just like when u are playing the tourist, when u reach the bay u can drink salt water and your problems will be solved
- While u are exploring the westland as soon as u can create the campfire, take some embers to create the stone axe, then take the metal scraps so u have access to the scarp axe, I dont think is that necessary but I used the basic spears on mokeys and did just fine, I did this to save the scraps to axe but with the 6 seats u have metal to spare so I think is best to just use some scraps to craft the metal spear (save ur bullets to boars!)

- You wont need to explore anymore, just try to collect everything u need for the raft (for this u will have to explore 100% wetlands-jungle-bay)
For the raft roughly u will need 17 trees, 18 cured skins (16 more if u want the floor covered but is not necesary for speedrun), over 15 ropes, around 100 fiber cords, around 30 long sticks, over 20 clays..

-While u are collecting all this stuff just try to survive like any gameplay, prepare nice meals, craft foot-hand wrapping, fight every monkey, prepare some waterskins, some aloe gel, I used fish a lot of fish traps really early since u can place them and forget about them, I created around 30 salted meat stored in baskets,etc.. I unlocked the raft around day 35-40

I dont remember exactly every step but I roughly did this, it would be really nice if u can catch a monkey alive, since u have to take so many trees in the bay the monkey will help to peel the coconuts for free, but is not necesary..

Always remember that this is a raft escape so is better to have some training in raft escape (carry water, cords, food, weston and so..)

If I remember anything I will try to add something, also if u have any question just ask me

Good Luck!

I got it on my first try, all I did have every good perk (EVERY good perk), then I explored the whole island while letting as much leather as the raft needs 8 leather. really just get every good perk.

The most import perk is "Brave", if you have "Brave", you can unlock Raft in 33.3 Days(Without any explore or skill objective).
The perk "Sailor" will get you 12.5% determination at start.

RIght, got mixed up about the achievement length. Change day 75 to 45 and build the raft between storms in the wet season.

This is all really helpful thanks guys!

Good to know about the starting determination!

All really helpful! So just doing normal crafting + starting perks is enough to get some to 100% huh? Ok good to know

You can also speed up determination drinking alcohol.

Hi guys, just as an update, thanks to all your advice I managed to speedrun pretty fast! Unlocked raft blueprint by day 27, was stocked up/built and ready to go by day 36, got rescued by day 47 (way faster than I thought!). The determination boost from "Brave" and "sailor" helped a lot, plus I fully explored about 5 areas in the process of rushing copper axe.

These all helped me get the raft fast , plus being able to drink salt water greatly reduced some needs -- didn't need to build the 2nd raft expansion (only had 3 storage crates) and didn't need to farm extra leather for waterskins. The gun (+ archery skill) was amazing! Yea, having literally all the perks (including seeing at night) like greatly broke the game and made it really easy haha.
