I like the Jungle or Western Grasslands. Good access to the sea, close enough to the Wetlands.

Depends on what you want your run to be like. If you want a large farm, the secret valley is the only place you can grow rice, however, it gets REALLY HOT there and it's far from the ocean, so you'll want a lot of water storage. You also wont get moniter lizards there, just macacues, and while they can be annoying they don't cause run ending wounds usually. If you want to subsist on a lot of meat, the jungle. While the bugs can get hard to manage, you can get to the bay from there and the storms wont blow away anything outside like they will in the jungle outskirts, it's also close to the mangroves, the beach, and other more centralized locations.

For most starting players the jungle directly off of the bay (deep jungle path not outskirts) is more or less the best main location early to mid game, as you can build a path to quick travel between the bay and wetlands directly from there, you can then build a well in the wetlands and a cellar at your main base location both for storing food and beating the heat... If you clear all the paths in the caves you can also quick access the network from the wetlands cave and you get quick access to snake grass, lemongrass, and aloe for pest control early game... Further, you can use the wetlands cave to store gross stuff to avoid comfort loss

For me Jungle or Wetlands.

I can confirm that Jungle ( the area between the Bay, Jungle Outskirts, Grasslands and Wetlands ) is considered the best place for a permanent base by most of the players. That is where i will be building a hut in my most recent playtrough as well.

It is such a nice central location :).

AS for Wetlands.

Personally I always had a soft spot for Wetlands because it is oh so convinient to be able to just toss anything you do not need right away into the Dark Cave and some of the best food in the game grows amazing there. Water is also nice. You will have to be 100% on the ball with bugs though or really bad things will happen and it is a bit further away from the ocean obviosly.

Secret Valey is great for farming but it is so far away from ocean that I would not advise it.

Other areas did not really attract me that much they can be good depending on your playstile ( for example if you want to fish a lot and trap fish and live of the ocean you can make the base on the beach or the Bay but the lack of ability to cut down wood on the location card is very painfull.

Good luck!

Is there anything wrong with making my base on the Bay? So far I got a Shed on the Bay, sounds like I should make a Mud Hut in the jungle? Does seem like there is more resources available in jungle (more wood, closer to wetlands for mud)

Storms are a big reason. They destroy things not inside of weather protected storage if you're at the bay and many other areas. They don't do that in the jungle. You won't get hit with one until wet season around day 30, but then they're frequent for about a month. Sheds would probably need to be repaired often (I think the common idea is to just skip sheds entirely?) to deal with storm damage too.

Yeah I am in day 40-50 or so, and the storm really effed me over - i am currently trying to rebuild all my structures inside the shed lol, i didn't know that wouldn't happen in the jungle, thank you!!

Are you not able to cut down palm trees/small trees there?
