Screen Space reflections are almost universally bad, very few games manage to hide the downsides SSR has.
The only real downside that I am aware of for setting reflections to medium is that cube map quality is also lowered. Those are visible in a few other areas in the game where a reflection is simulated. I never noticed the reduction in quality without looking for it. The Digital Foundry PC port video goes over this in more detail.
The shimmering is just low sample count, there's nothing you can do to fix it other than using lower preset that doesn't have SSR.
