They are both really good, but I would say I prefer Dead Space. But if you're a huge fan of roguelites you may prefer Returnal.

This game is.. slow..immersive.. careful.. exploration... spiced with too much sound jump scares and music scares...
returnarl - awfully ugly "fake" female face as main character.. gameplay seems to be very action packed.. like a basic shooter... and i dont know much else about that game..

both look amazingly pretty games.

Played Returnal on PS5, didn't care for it. Felt like a cool third person Metroid game but that got old and it just felt boring after maybe a week.

Get Dead Space > Callisto > Returnal

Returnal is also about as hard as Nier Automata on Very hard towards the end: it is going to cause you to rage and almost want to cry; because pain and inescapable lack of progress is the theme of the game. The last act kinda scarred a buddy of mine, and well....it would be spoilers, but just know it is a much deeper fear than most stories ever have the balls to pull off. A few films have tried, but without the level of class returnal does it.

Dead space has atmosphere and art for days tho, it's more entertaining. Returnal is....an experience. Potentially far more horrifying of a premise.

Yeah that's one of the reasons why I'm still hesitant for Returnal. It's like with Control at times, but Control at least allows you to keep you upgrades and everything.

Now, on the other hand, if Returnal actually had a difficulty selection, that's another story.

That's what makes Dead Space favored: it's doesn't tell the player "If you can't get better, that's your problem." I've seen more than enough of my share of people who play games to enjoy the experience, not end up getting stuck on certain parts of the game and can't get past it because the game doesn't allow you to tune down the difficulty.

This. And i actually agree 100%. Also Returnal is kind of unpredictable in terms of what you see and experience in the game. I like that a lot. Its basically all game design that the devs could come up with and thrown into a delicous stew. Tasty.

Returnal, 100%. Although comparing the two isn't exactly fair, though they have much in common. As a PC title and as a game, however, I'd say Returnal is better by almost every metric conceivable.

That being said... why not just play both?

Hmm, runs flawless on my high end system with RT maxed. That being said, the RT really doesn't add much to the game, visually. I have a 4090 and still disable the effects because the visual difference is so negligible, I'd rather save on the power bill and not push my system as hard.

True, but at the same time you have to also ask how big of a challenge are you asking for. Seems to me Returnal is the harder of the two games.
