* Religion is bad and will turn you into a zealot, and then a monster
-- Subplot: Isaac's mom was a religious zealot and may or may not have been involved in the disappearance of his father because he wasn't a religious zealot like her
* Oppressive military governments are bad and will turn people into zombies for experiments, and then attempt to kill all witnesses
* Capitalism is bad and causes humanity to go out there and literally destroy planets for resources because Earth ran out of them

What a non-political game! I can't believe how much politics and messages aren't in this game! This is truly a pure game, free of judgment on any of our lifestyles.

p.s. this was obviously sarcasm, the OG Dead Space was extremely political so it's truly baffling these so-called "fans" are showing up and saying politics don't belong in the remake.

Yeah but here's the thing though.

All of the political messages of the original game are about how awful religion, powerful governments and capitalism are for the human species. If these people have issues with the current game, they should hate the original too.

Things changed since then. Stronger conditioning has made certain things (phrases, signs, etc.) into subconscious triggers for a segment of the population. They can't even accurately explain why they're angry, they just know they are and they all repeat the same phrases, sometimes verbatim, when presented with these triggers. I legitimately think its a gauge for how many racists and homophobes are around. Release a movie or game with a POC or queer person, count the REEs and see if society is making progress. Believe it or not, i still think we are... slowly.

OG Dead Space is political? Not at all. The original EA and Visceral wanted nothing to do with politics. Now with women involved in the gaming community, we're lucky to even have gore in video gaming.

I mean, there's a reason the NPC "meme" was always posted verbatim in response to the same triggers, with zero self-awareness from the people posting it. If this were the plot of a TV show or something, it'd be bashed for being too "on-the-nose".

I know you are right but I cant imagine all the constant hate online about these communities existing in media is good for the well-being of these communities. If people are so vehemently against their existing in media, how do you suppose these people feel about them irl?

It's not a matter of where you stand on this issue, just a matter of acknowledging the original game and lore made it quite clear that capitalism consumed Earth and caused us to extend out into the stars with the purpose of destroying other planets for our own gain and survival, which is a political message whether you agree or disagree.
