Not familiar with BSG but using ST kind of defeats the point since the whole reason for the unisex bathroom scene in ST was to show some breasts, and the complaint about unisex bathrooms is people perving on one another.
Honestly i took the bathroom thing as tongue in cheek, half girl half boy. I thought they were poking fun.

Not Casper Van Dien? You have no standards my man!
Would you like to know more?!?!?
Real life space stations have unisex bathrooms too, like the ISS.

Neil Patrick Harris or GTFO
Star Trek started using gender-neutral "sir" as a form of address in the 80s. Did anyone freak out? Who the hell knows. Back then the only way fossilized bible pounders could complain about things was angry phone calls and letters to the editor.

Good times.

That is a completely different thing though. Also there actually was controversy around that (not ST specifically, but the idea of using sir universally in the actual military).

Using Sir universally in this context is supposed to show that there's no difference in authority or respect (at least nominally) between the male and female officers.

Women in the military have the option of being addressed as sir or Ma'am... its been this way for decades... guess the military was woke long before anyone else.

I know that In The Navy (snrk) all junior officers are called "Mister." The called Saavik Mister Saavik in Trek 2. Janeway had the ma'am preference though (usually 'sir' for senior officers, male and female,)* and had to remind the crew a couple times in the early days. The Navy is out of this world.

the "mister" in the Navy is a way of an informal way to address someone . kind of hard to explain, it's like you drop rank without dropping rank.

Yeah, when Sulu dropped rank on Christian Slater in VI, I felt that.
