Game open error, anti-tamper URL in error message
I am using Linux Mint 20.3 with an AMD Ryzen and AMD 5500XT GPU using mesa 22.3.0

Every time I open the game, no matter what Proton compatibility I set it to, I get a generic error that doesn't give any information except a "code fusion" URL link ( https://support.codefusion.technology/anti-tamper/?e=88500006&l=english&s=at ). Can someone explain this? Thanks.

Yeah I know its Denuvo... I just don't have this issue with any other games :(

And I'd love to play, been a fan since the first release of the original DS. There is so many bugs and problems with this game.. it's a shame games are released without much quality control anymore.

That's indeed Denuvo preventing you from playing the game. Codefusion is the name for the activation servers of Denuvo and the message you got is the standard message you get when you triggered the protection.

Denuvo only allows 5 activations a day... problem is, changing compatibilty layers, changing OS or moving from your desktop to the Steam Deck for instance all count as activations. When it happens, the only solution is to wait 24 hours and trying again. Beyond that, contact EA's support. :clickbutton:

Is says WIndows 10 on the Store Page..Not linux. Has nothing to do with Quality Control. It does n't advertise as Linux compatible. As long as your going to try to run Windows games on Linux that is going to happen.

Minimum and recommended settings are not "compulsory settings". Games initially developed for Windows perform fine if not better on Linux distros thanks to Valve's contributions to Proton.

However, we're seeing only more and more customers complaining about getting locked out: Denuvo needs to get with the times and quickly update their middleware to account for the evolution in customer habits. The Steam Deck in particular shook up a lot of preconceived notions about gaming on Linux.

Sorry but minimum has absolutely nothing to do with OS compatibility. If you want to run it get WIndows 10.They never said it works on Linux and never advertised it to. You cannot understand that simple concept. They are under no requirement to ever make it work on Linux as they never said it would.

...you obviously don't understand how Linux and its compatibility layer works...

No the game isn't initially designed to run natively on any Linux platform, no one here, nor I, ever claimed this. That's what Proton and its compatibility layers are for.

I was able to get the game to open a few times but it would immediately crash at the main menu. Now I'm getting this start up error. I have dozens and dozens of "Windows only" games on here that run perfectly fine, some even run better than on my Windows 10 Pro boot.

Giving a troll answer helps no one at all, and definitely does not contribute anything to the discussion.

The problem here is what lukaself just mentioned... and makes sense. I've opened the game running trial-and-error sessions and the anti-cheat bs is what's not allowing me to open it any longer. Makes a lot of sense, and I didn't really realize it as I don't deal with this type of error under normal circumstances.

Also how you gonna be like "Linux oh no" when the game can't even run on half of people's Windows systems lmao....

Missing the point as ever. The game does run on Linux, (Proof here) their DRM middleware is simply out of date and won't allow it to because they detected more activations than authorised.

Again, Denuvo is getting obsolete and needs to update their software to follow the evolution of technology. On second thought, hope they don't and get left behind like their previous middleware, SecuROM - Good riddance. :yikes:

Thank you, and I absolutely agree.

I'm to the point where I'll never buy another game with denuvo no matter how bad I want to play it. It sucks that it is so many of them. It is nothing but problems.

My windows crashes only with any game that includes denuvo. But doesn't on Linux if it runs.

Damn, I've been playing games for over 40 years and I still don't know what Denuvo is.
