Dead Space 2023: Polished Game Play, Boring Story
You might be wondering how someone could ♥♥♥♥ up a story like Dead Space? Look no further than this game. My god, the people who did the writing for this alternate universe version of Dead Space really knew how to destroy pacing. Hell, they even brought back the old trope of the villain speech!

Kind of getting the feeling this was written by children with no understanding of how to write a script.

This is the most Preposterous thing I've ever heard

I highly doubt that.

I find it very good. I like the concept of a ship that lost contact out in the middle of space and you are sent to investigate.

You're so next to the plate with this statement. It's far from that level.

Heard of Dino Crisis 3 ? Imagine a sci-fi scenario about genetics BUT the writer knew nothing about how that works...

Well yeah, that's the plot of the original Dead Space, only it was exceptional in it's story delivery... In 2023, it's just terrible. Kind of like Phase 4 of the MCU.

The original DS had a pretty bland story - if anything they've made it a tiny bit better (still pretty bland though).

The reason that people like it is, and always has been, due to the gameplay.

Your points don't hold, they literally added more content to make sense of and the first thing you're thinking about is comparing it to the next horror story as if nobody has ever done anything of the same already.

Wrong-O my friend. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

OG Dead Space, back in 2008, was very well done. Was considered truly terrifying at the time. It's old now, but in its heyday it was a standout.

No, they made it stupid.

First, they telegraph everybody's intentions. They break canon by letting you know the marker is trying to consume people (which again, you don't actually learn until Dead Space 2). They also make it super obvious that Nicole is dead and not real (which again, was a major reveal in the original game). And, they let you know the marker is onboard very early in the game. Again, this was a major reveal late in the game from the original.

All of this mind you, is revealed within the first 4-5 chapters of the game. It's just bad writing.
And don't get me started on the pacing of the game. Nothing ever feels like it's urgent in Dead Space 2023. In the original, the other characters around you are in a semi-state of panic, and you're given the vibe that you need to hurry. That time is of the essence. In Dead Space 2023, you might as well take a nap, read a book, or watch some Space TV. No hurry!

I agree with your statements.
Still, there are some parts added that were interesting like the last conversation between Isaac and Nicole before the outbreak.

Nothing feels urgent in any game, don't know where you get that feeling from, you've already played the OG, nothing will come off as a surprise.

You're blinded by nostalgia.

I tend to agree. I haven't found the story in the remake all that compelling, and the villain does seem a little more cliche than in the original. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it is worth mentioning.

Nope, you're just seeing the original with nostalgia goggles on.

people play games like these for story?
Hoobaloobgoobles Jan 29, 2023 @ 1:23pm
Nah, you're completely off it. The story was only improved in this one (at least as far as I've got, 4 or 5 hours at this point). Nothing has really interrupted the pacing all that much. The villain speech stops things for a minute to introduce a character and immediately drops an invincible necromorph behind you. The pacing is actually one of the better things the game does, and the remake hasn't really made it worse as far as I've seen.
