So uhh.. play both I guess?
Now after finishing the game, then you can try the remake and see for yourself the changes and perspectives of this new game and experience along the way what was modified in terms of story, gameplay, graphics, etc, to the original.
At the end, you will have a personal opinion between those two games you played and say what was the pros and cons of each one and from here, you can say, if the original beat the remake or if the remake beat the original, etc.
Be sure to watch Dead Space Downfall, it's an animated prequel to the first game. Be warned that it is extremely gory, just like the game.

Or watch it after finishing the first game to keep that suspense of not knowing what's going on.
If you remember/know the game THAT well then play whatever.
If you're NEW, I strongly recommend this version. It runs pretty well and is a solid game. Definitely recommend DSR, and $60, this isn't remaster or an update like the Witcher3 "next gen", it's a stand alone FULL GAME.
it has better bathrooms
