Kendra Daniels: a bad character change

So I have taken to playing both OG and the Remake side by side. Play a bit in one then going back to the other and get to that same spot. All done to see the accuracy and changes, though I likely won't play through it all like this. I'm only an hour+ in, but I've noticed one character has been dramatically changed so far:

Kendra Daniels.

In the OG Dead Space, she often panicked and argued with Zach Hammond. He would then tell her to get her sh*t together so they can survive. He would go off of her information to formulate a plan.

In the Remake, she's now often clam and cool, quickly coming up with the solutions that Isaac must follow through on. Her and Zach never seem to argue at all.

So far, I'm not a fan of this Remake version of Daniels at all. While the OG one was more annoying, she really sold the fact that she and the crew were really in a horrifying situation and could've died. This helps build the feeling of this game that is a HORROR game. The Remake Daniels... acts like this is all but a mildly startling inconvenience. Not only it is a unrealistic reaction to nearly dying in a crash or a murderous alien outbreak, her lack of arguing with Zach lessens the story's tension even more so.

Why did they change this? Was it because they thought she was too annoying in the OG? Did they think all these characters should be rolling as a hardcore unit? Or is this just another woke-ism? Because if there's one thing that woke writers hate, it's a female character that looks incompetent. And before someone comes at me with, "oh so you hate competent women then!" No. If you're thinking that, shame on you. Stop it.

Honestly, I found the new one to be way better. OG Kendra was unprofessional and whiny.

Absolute travesty what they did to Kendra and Hammonds dynamic here. Especially butchered the tough Nubian Prince that was the leader to give us a Buffoon instead.

As much as I love me some beeg o' taddas... I don't really care too much about her outfit change. Though, her new outfit looks more realistic too and could simply be covering them puppers. But her looks are far less my focus here in this topic.

I never liked Kendra in the original, not because of whatever excuse of her being a woman, but because her character never fit into the storyline, it always felt forced and contrived. The only bit that Daniels actually had a proper role in was to expose Isaac to the truth about Nicole and the markers that were messing with his head.

When Kendra's final moments came, her death felt utterly pointless, as if it had no meaning.

I loved what she brought to the table in the OG. She was like Hudson from Aliens, that kind of character. She added tension and dread because she was such a crybaby doomer. and you always sensed there was something sneaky about her too.

Now she's too...flat. In more ways than one.

To me, her unprofessionalism and whinyness was completely understandable because the situation was far from anything normal. Plus, it really sold that she wasn't some combat tech - she was just a regular ship technician. Spoilers aside.

Yes. Also when you know more about her character the modern take makes way more sense.

she was also manipulative, she wanted to drive a wedge of mistrust between Hammond and Clarke and when Hammond wasn't around she'd find a way to be uncertain in instances or disparaging of Clarke's abilities and then try to seek reassurance from Clarke because she knew his response and pretended as if she felt safe being around him, this was in order to try play favourites.

Definitely changed for the better. Being whiny and panicky absolutely ruins the plot twist of her character in Chapter 11.
