Callisto was a far worse game though. This remake is a 7/10 while Callisto was a 3/10.
EDIT: Yes, I know. Scroll down a bit.
Also, given that DS has overall positive reviews, and the last time I checked, Costello still has mixed reviews, I’d say that DS is far from being a “flop” lol.
He's talking about Callisto Protocol
That game honestly escaped my mind completely after I saw what it was like.
what?
More obvious reasons for me are: horror sf genre is quite niche, game was released in January (and best sales ares in December before Christmas), and a lot of people who didnt like CP were worried DSR would also suck.
Also people who played original DS- maybe they decided that 70$ for remake of old game is just too much. I bought it because i had discount coupon, without it i would also wait for at least 50% sale.
No way to know this early in.
The Callisto Protocol's budget was something like 161 million dollars to make. They say they needed about twice the sales to even be able to recoup costs long term. In comes the Dead Space Remake. It's steam numbers are twice as large. It's topping the physical sales charts in the UK too. The budget isn't anywhere near the 161 million to make DSR because EA does not trust the franchise to pull in that much.
I'm willing to bet the Dead Space remake was quite financially successful from all the numbers we have on top of it's critical success. I don't think there will be any caveat to calling the game a flop in the long term.
