Anhedonia is a real thing.
Also helps if you aren't charging through the game like it's a COD match.
It does have a great atmosphere and the sound design is amazing.
Once you have at it, you're bound to be ready for the most of it, hence why games like Resident Evil whether we like it or not took an action turn because you cannot be scared forever. Which is why gameplay needs to be top notch to keep the players interested if the horror can't be in the front seat as much.
One thing for sure, playing with limitations such as 1 life does get your blood pumping when under pressure.
Necromorphs , in general, aren't scary. The game atmosphere is.
I was an adult when it came out in 2008 and didnt find it that "scary" then either really
