[UPDATED] Quest2 / RTX VR Settings: Fix all problems
Hello, my first experience with F122 in VR was bad. Image was blurred, head movement was stuttering, I had many crashes. By tweaking some settings I was able to fix it all and turn F122 into one of best / most polished VR games ever made. period.

So, this post (continuously updated) is for everyone out there who is having the same issues. Please, DON'T GIVE UP and try to give it a shot, it's well worth.

My specs: Ryzen 5600X, RTX3080, Quest2.

Here we are with the settings, you need to change things in many places:

1) Oculus Quest 2: Disable AirLink so you can play with the Link cable (image quality is much better)
2) Oculus App: Set 72Hz refresh rate and automatic resolution (in my case it's 4128x2096)
3) Oculus Debug Tool (you can find this app in C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics): Set "PC Async Spacewarp" to Disabled. Under Oculus Link set "Encode Bitrate" to 400, "Link Sharpening" to Enabled, "Mobile ASW" to Enabled
4) Nvidia Control Panel: Set "VR prerendered frames" to "Application controlled"
5) Steam: Select F1 22 properties and deselect both "overlay" and "cinema mode", under "General"
6) Steam VR: In video options, put resolution to 100%. Also disable the controller add-on. I also disabled SteamVR home but I don't know if it makes a difference
7) F1 22 Graphics menu: Set gamma to 70 (much better colors). In the video settings, select Sharpening TAA + Fidelity as the Antialiasing method (best one by far), 16x Anysotropic filtering and set Dynamic resolution to "On" in "Balanced" mode with 50 as minimum resolution. Put screen resolution to 1920x1080. In the main page, select "Low" as the graphics preset
8) F1 22 VR Settings: Put resolution to 180. Also, some says it's better to turn off stencils

Start from here and adjust to your need / specs. In particular, you can reduce resolution in VR settings up to 100 and increase graphical setting to High or Very High (Very High is still pretty fluid for me but gives me crashes. High doesn't).

What patch are you referring to? I've not seen any news about a patch coming for PC

Mmm...I'm not really sure there is a patch out now. I found something on google related to a 1.05 patch but let's see if it's true. When a new patch will be live I will update this thread.
A patch has just gone live on Xbox so hoping it goes live on PC soon
So just copied these like for like mate,

And definatly an improvement, its not perfect the graphics could be better for sure. but its smoother I just complted 28 laps round silverstone racing and it was amazing. I've put in game VR to 100 and settings in game VR MED. works well.

Wish was abit prettier or sharper or be able to run in like 90hz oculus higher res.

RYZEN 7 5800x
16GB.

PC is the only VR Platform. So any XBOX or PS patching strategy isn't relevant for VR on PC.

The patch notes mentions VR fixes upcoming for PC from the one website I saw.

Either way, I'd like to see better stability if it's true. The suggestions in this thread did wonders but I still had stutters turning my head left and right. Turning off Stencil Mesh in VR settings for some reason helped with that weirdly enough. Problem I'm having is that Steam VR crashes out sometimes but not the game. Not sure why that's happening.

So...the solution is run it on low detail, low FPS (htz), low headset resolution & its SORTED??........RUBBISH, even with everything you suggest there is still lag when you move your head (even in menus) & looks horrific. VR is broken in this for a lot of people (not all) on many PC configurations. Do a couple of laps of Monza in this then jump to AMS2 same track/car the performance/optimisation difference is staggering. Like you I'm on 3080, 5600X 32 gig etc..everything else I run @90htz 1.3 SS mostly high settings easily get constant 90 with headroom left...but this..dear me...needs serious patching & Oculus API.

I7 + RTX3080 + 16Gb + Vive Pro.
4K - solid 90 fps
Everything mostly on High except the crowd, using the AMD FSR option

This actually helped me a lot, it looks better. Graphics are still not the best, but at least playable with VR now :)

Link Sharpening could cause micro stutter i would recommend to disable it at the moment. Steamvr needs to be in beta channel. Stable steamvr could also cause micro stutter. Generally theres maybe a Problem with Nvidia Cards at the moment in VR cause with Radeon RDNA(2) Gpus vr in F1 22 performs pretty fine as long the above steps are done. It could be a special Problem with Nvidia, Oculus, and F1 22 cause WMD Headsets like HP Reverb etc dont have this problems for Nvidia Users.

are you on Nvidia or AMD GPU ?

for mysel with an 6900XT its no problem to use the ultra high VR Quality preset and disable FSR at steady and high frame rates. Its bearable to disable Link Sharpening n my case. But sure lower settings or use of dlss or fsr can change this.

Hey everyone, remove the hardware file folder from the game (documents>my games>F1 22>hardware folder) after this the game runs like a dream for me. Prior to doing this, the game wouldn't even launch in vr, so might be worth a shot!
