i don't get it, is this just a demo?

I can't make head or tails of this game, i've been playing a hand full of hours, and now i'm on level 9 with one of my hunters and level 5 with the other. Level progress has given me minimal unlocks in what looks like a skill tree, but it only improves a few values, does not provide new skills (so far). I have a mission to equip some gear, but in all the games i played i didn't really see any gear. I sometimes get top damage or mvp, but really? it doesn't feel very rewarding, as nothing really feels like you are doing any serious progress in the game, and all the credits i got, what are they good for beyond the very limited skill tree?

Ahoy! Thank you for your feedback; I really appreciate it. As you progress, you’ll be able to level up your Hunter and unlock additional stats and upgrades, such as basic attributes (health, shields, reduced incoming damage) and ability enhancements (increased damage, reduced cooldowns, additional dashes, etc.). These are all detailed in-game, so you can see exactly what each upgrade provides.

Regarding equipment, your Hunter needs to be at least level 11 (higher is even better), and you’ll need to join a lobby with players at level 12 or higher (you can check the lobby level on the loading screen). Once you're in such a lobby, you'll start receiving gear. As for credits, you can use them to buy Hunter upgrades.
