The trailer made it look good, but the gameplay felt stale.
Just go look at gameplay from mechabreak; Any of the armored core games even the ones from playstation era; Most of the mech assault games; Strike Suit zero/infinity. They all feel like they have a clunkyness to them as if you're in a 20 feet tall death machine instead of feeling like a clunky first person shooter in a toybox. They also feel like they're armed like one would expect a 20 feet tall death machine to be armed. Multiple armaments, a healthy clunkiness that is tied to your weight.
In short if you increased the responsiveness and changed the robot skin to a human. I bet most people wouldn't even realize it was suppose to be a mecha/robot game in the first place.
I played 1 round of this and it felt like whiplash from what I expected and what I got. My friends had to convince me to keep playing it.
I feel abit sorry for the Mech designers that there work ended up in such a game.
As for gameplay, its boring as hell, but this might just be me.
Looting Balls, Squares and Triangles better be a Placeholder because damn is it dumb.
Abilities felt lacking too, They dont hit all to well, then again i didnt use all the mechs so maybe one of them "felt" alright.
The super Mech transformation needs to go, it was boring to use.
Just my two cent of course, since its alpha i hope they do a different game out of there assets instead while they can.
Edit: i will say, Animation was nice on most of the mechs! thats probably something i can say i was happy about, same with some sound effects.
the mechanics of the game play around this and if you are not aware of that you can easily find yourself feeling like you were powerless or died too fast or something when reality is it's a skill issue.
hour long video of my own gameplay on last day of demo on level22 fenris

edit:
its basically an area hero shooter. the br elements serve to concentrate players around towers that can give upgrade items or consumables etc. 6 teams of 2 on appropriately sized maps made it so action was coming sooner rather than later (unless youre playing pve).
my only criticism is the power of a fully upgraded high level hunter kind of forces them to separate matchmaking by level, which splits pop and increases queue time for high level players. It makes sense balance wise, but is less fun for me personally as higher level.
also heartbreaker was OP in damage and its invisible run last too long
The game isn't even out yet and playing it required an invite too. But yeah sure the game died. lol
But for some strange reason wargaming games are popular even with the crap monetization. The gamers themselves killed the gaming industry.
***
It's more like they cornered the market and those who seek to challenge it push equally greedy and unfriendly mechanics.
Like look at Navy War: Battleship Games, it's graphics are worse, it feels like a mobile game and the monetization is just as aggressive. They know they cornered the market and as long as all the newcomers are equally greedy then they have little to worry about. What are the players going to do? Go play that game that doesn't exist?
