Too forgiving for a Roguelike.
The game loop is fun. No doubt. But I'm pushing the difficulty slider as high as I can (and absolutely suffering for it in the best way) and still leveling up significantly and steadily after each crushing defeat (usually but not always at the end of the chapter). Losing isn't just "forgiving", winning isn't important at all. Everything that I can unlock besides story progress is simply tied to gathering materials each run and having them automatically traded in at the end.

This, combined with a very generic approach to the randomization of each run, is why the content pool is drying up for players after only ~15 hours. I'm not going on voyages for rare treasure, or seizing limited windows of opportunity to damage Blackbones operation. I'm just doing stuff to make number go up until I have enough number to make myself stronger than the next hurdle.

We need rewards. We need items we have to earn and items we can LOSE. We need risks.

I agree.

Probably why they labeled it as a Rogue-Lite, and not a Rogue-Like.

That nuance aside, I do agree that there should be a bit more in the risky-ventures department aside from "Stats go up/down" for the Difficulty modes. Also yes, the content. It didn't take me long to realize that you can see almost everything the game has to offer before your Refund Window's even over. Did I have fun still? Yes, I'm sadly very easy to please. Do I wish there was more? Yes! More to discover, more story to uncover, more reasons to go on non-story expeditions....

Does anyone actually still make rogue-likes? A true rogue-like, you retain nothing after death except game knowledge.

You do keep the happy memories...
Part of the problem with the difficulty, is it increases the rewards you get for doing things, which lowers the difficulty.
