How to catch a monster?

You equip a net, then you can right click on a monster of the appropriate color of low enough level. There is also the condition of having high enough monster study title level (you need to see the stats tooltip to capture stuff).

You use nets, each net has a colour that can only catch that colour of monster ("normal" is a colour as well as far as the game is concerned).
Initially you will have to manually activate nets when the correct enemies are nearby, later on you will be able to automate it.

different colored monsters require different colored nets. some quests reward you with the next net color before you can unlock them. the Tamer has skills that capture guys.
