i spent some time getting the drops and even getting the thief to level them up before WA1. however, once i got into WA1 and later, the drops happen a lot more frequently, not to mention you can level them up faster. in other words, if you happen to get them and level them, that's fine, but don't hang around in pre-WA situation to do that if you are ready to do an ascension.
ah, i'm the sort that likes to get as much done before doing an ascension (or even a rebirth), since the time spent pre-wa helps later on, especially if stats etc etc gets reset, i'd rather not spend extra hours finding replacements and then having to re-level etc everything... do it properly the first time so you can set up subsequent WA progression at a faster pace from the get-go...
It's better to do the first WA fairly quickly (still get any extra points you can that don't take too long for example) to unlock area prestige and preferably a point (or more) in the perk that multiplies the clear count per actual clear.
It's fine to do the whole "do everything" before the second WA if you like to play like that but you should try to stop your tendency for that first one or you will effectively waste a lot of your own time for no real reason.
