You want to rebirth as often as possible to get the most rebirth points and guild points. If you can rebirth, you usually should (don't worry too much about ability points).
Focus research on cartographer and temple leaf (more town materials, faster rebirths).
A major goal is the fairy garden and the normal fairy for T1 autorebirth.
Some things to aim for, for now:
Get T1 Rebirths at lv200 for the extra 100 ability points (dungeons help a lot)
Grind for basic good equips (don't worry about enchants, just fight high level mobs)
Try to max out your skill's passive buffs as much as you can (aka, level up your skills to the buffs they provide, as they are passive for that individual hero only)
Aim to beat the Magislime dungeon for Cartographer (use potions[healing and strength/magic buff] {also be sure to level up the healing potion as much as you can, and use the sim on the dungeon to see how close you get. If you die, you need more health, if you run out of time, you need more damage, and time blessing usage so you get a refresh from the shop so you can use them again mid-dungeon if you need to, before they run out}, equips, and probably warrior, but mage can work too) to unlock that lv30 area (it's SUPER helpful) Magic resistant armor, high offensive weapons and jewelry are the key equip types, imo.
If you can't beat the dungeon at all, even with your best, try T2 rebirth a few times, as it provides a passive buff to T1's Ability points, and use the T2 points on Skill Prof., so you can KO enemies quicker, and re-reach battle ready status quickly. Any leftover points should go into T2 exp gain. T2 Rebirth also provides Ability points per 25 levels, if you go over 200 (so 201 provides 1 points per 25 levels, 4 at level 100, and rebirth at lv300 makes 100 every 25, 400 at 100). If you aim for those, do it as it feels comfortable, don't force it to take longer to get higher, because that can actually end up taking longer at this stage of the game.
Epic store Equip Tenacity and Skill Tenacity are also SUPER helpful since they let you use Equips and skills your heroes don't have the levels/mana for. Very strong early game.
Late-early game:
Try to get 1 T3 rebirth on each hero before you WA, but that isn't super necessary, T2 will work ok at this point as well.
If you want to keep any specific equipment on WA (AKA don't want to lose any specific equip you have), make sure to get it to LV10 with the 4th hero you unlock.
BEFORE you WA, do BOTH a cloud save AND an Export File save.
WA is the big advancement of the game, helps everything to go a lot faster, but if you don't have the Ascension tab yet, don't worry about it. It's also generally advised to be done early on, 5-6 WApoints, but you can do it whenever ya like, even if that is 46 points or more, but sooner is quicker, long-term (there are good reasons to wait though).
so just keep dumping into exp multiplier for now? some more opens up later?
Afaik magicslime dungeon 3 might require some sort of healing and/or hp buff. Regeneration from halo and MDEF from equipment are useful as well, resistances don't help because you can't reliably get them all yet. Magicslime equipment is very good for damage but isn't needed (I didn't get any before clearing it).
Any death before wave 100 means impossible to clear, simulated death at wave 100 might be clearable - there are 2 bosses that can be stacked on top of each other to damage both at once, simulation doesn't do that. As far as can I remember, any clear got to the wave 100 with full/mostly full health and could lose a lot of it there at first.
