GROUND BRANCH
one actual update a year?
1034 was in march. When 1035.

Yeah, it sucks. But TBH updates are substantial and game is steadily moving towards finished and polished 1.0; In the meantime, mods get fleshed out.

For example, Ranch coop clip shows much smoother transitions between anims.

It's bearable.

what other tac shooters? most are a joke.

greyzone warfare is online only
delta force isn't like delta force and is f2p rubbish
black one blood brothers is awfully bad
direct contact is very unfinished
ready or not is not bad but also not great
call of duty is trash and has been for a long time
the two new fps with realistic movement looked decent but are online only

not a lot to choose from in terms of single player tactical fun...
hmm, most updates seem to be iterative things like improve recoil, better lighting on certain maps, etc.

I've supported this game from the begining before it was on steam, bought multiple copies for friends because i belive in its philosophy and goal.

But its progress is just too focused on minutia and not the big brushstrokes to deliver the bigger gameplay content that is needed.

greyzone warfare has been out far less but provides 100s of hours of content, its an incredible game, really. I only hope to see ground branch succeed as much as that, but to do that we need a substantial amount of actual new game content.

What is so incredible in GZW? From what I've seen, its a big open world, on a lifeless jungle environment, with little to no action... Its like you painted the whole map green and filled with free unreal assets and such...

Right now, I think its GB and RoN are the only two real competitors in the tac shooter genre.

But you're right about content. BFS needs another programmer guy, who can quicken the AI developing, and they need to release a map SDK so modders can breathe life into the game, so it doesnt get boring. In the meantime they could refine the underlying systems and gunplay etc.

Work in Unreal Engine generally is iterative. Esp. that:
1 - engine grows and evolves. You learn stuff as you do it, what works & what doesn't.
2 - they are [at least mostly] doing the stuff the right way. That's why the game feels much better than plenty of games which did cut corners. And I can assure you, as I've been there: you ALMOST ALWAYS pay the price for cutting corners and "bandaid solutions to a torn off limb" earlier on.
3 - they've kept updating \ pushing out outdated \ placeholder assets so they wouldn't be thrown into the same bin as many "Asset Flip Scams" or just "awfully bad" indies.

Still:
- few new maps (I remember Creek, City, Oil f^ckthatmap Rig, AFAIR there was sth more)
- 2 new game modes + PvP game modes (that nobody cares about)
- backend for weather and lightning system
- Screen Space Global Illum and general lighting update, much better gfx overall
- new anim system, new skeleton, fully new characters & cosmetic items
- Mantling
- Prone & crawling
- realistic NVG system (which I've asked for years) and GPNVG's
- InGame Mission (Game Mode?) Editor
- Steam Workshop support
- dozen? or so new guns, few new attachments, new guns category
- ability to see people's names in-game
- GUI Upgrade
- Wahmen (I care, I like these, suck my barrel if you disagree)
- reworked parts of the AI (still WIP), so it doesn't cheat as much, esp. at night

That's a pretty extensive list for last what, 2-3 years? These are 5-6 dudes most of the time that are putting updates that put Call of Insurgency: Modern Sandstorm to shame.

Do I agree they need to step up map production? Absolutely.
Do I hate the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wait? Absolutely.
Did I voice that numerous times so half of BFS probably already hates me? Totally.

But I'd really cut'em some slack esp. that quality of delivered stuff is really top notch.

Correct, but the last 1034 update was in August.
let´s not confuse things, Greyzone is basically an online only - open world - looter shooter, kind of live service game, basically a Tarkov clone but with "Far Cry" or "Crysis" jungle instead of “Stalker” settings.

sure it´s dressed as Tac-realistic shooter but the core gameplay is grind for loot and continuous inventory and crap management, two things fortunately GB doesn´t have.

RoN is a police squad simulation, it´s all about managing the squad and clean rooms in close quarters urban settings.

GB is the real "old school" tac shooter without fluff, you got small, medium and bigger maps, cq and/or long range engagements, can be played solo or coop, online or offline and it´s still the most realistic and grounded, not saying it´s perfect because it´s not, has still lots of little flaws and it´s clearly far from being complete yet but it is its own thing and shouldn´t be compared with other games that are similar only on the surface.

that said yes we all know development and updates are slow and I wish they would come faster but it is what it is, I am sure the dev team do what they can and they seem passionate and honest about it.

I am looking forward to 1035.

I would also consider that the Ground Branch Dev's are moving towards more complex framework and implementation tasks. Perfecting single player AI is an example
They release one update per year and take 8 months to fix everything that doesn't work. That's why the last update was in August for 1034. Nice try.
The updates for this game are glacial. How many devs do these guys actually employ?

From reading the dev logs it sounds like they only have 1 dedicated programmer but I could be wrong they may have a few but either way they have a tiny team because they aren't backed by millions or even hundreds of thousands.
Game has essentially no meaningful content and updates are at a snails pace. I'd recommend Black One Bloodbrothers over this. I think its a solo dev but he actually is actively updating the game and its been in EA a fraction of the time as this.

Arma, a game over a decade old still crushes this. And has far more variety. This is literally a tech demo at best. And its been the same tech demo with a few new hats and guns added over the course of 7 years. This game might as well be lumped in with the rest of your list.
