Is progression really THAT hated?
This honestly isn't about the game but I just saw that there are no unlocks or any progression in this game. And I just wanted to ask if progression is really that hated. Because honestly I enjoy well made progression

Lack of unlocks and ranks is a deliberate decision.
Its the whole thing of "If you don't like it, make it yourself.".
So we did :)

I hope someone adds a funding/budget system to the campaign, as well as stats to improve. A large part of why GR01 is so great is that you build up a team and then they can permanently die. Instead of expanding upon that, GR removed it, and GB is doing the same thing. I'd love it if the team could grow a cohesion, gaining trust in their leadership and allies, allowing them to improve performance (similar to leadership skill of GR01), along with individual stats for improving their reaction times, P.I.D., bomb defusal, etc. The same old arguments about the team being T1 so they wouldn't be improving is silly and baseless, and it brings out the argument: it's a game. If making it into an elite unit meant you couldn't improve anymore, than the military would hit a wall and there wouldn't be an archetype of the old veteran. It also ignores that everyone is different, but they're all robotic in this game; you can't tell your best shooter to provide overwatch. Attribute variety simply adds greater dynamics and stakes to the gameplay, making it more of a "thinking man's shooter."

(On a side note, the permanent death was improved in RS3, as they could sometimes survive incapacitation. That would also be a good mod.)

We have kicked around the idea of players "achieving" ribbons or medals for certain things and time playing. But they would be purely cosmetic and have absolutely no value to gameplay.

And nothing would be achieved in a way that would be negative to gameplay. An example of that might be along the lines of a medal for 50 headshots or something dumb like that.

I haven't played the game yet. But have been watching for a long time. Instead of Medals or ribbons which is done often. How about just titles based on the amount of hours played.

Whenever i play FPS games with unlocks such as COD or similar i always end up with the issue of sticking to the starter weapon despite other unlocks.
Progression can be neat when it's cosmetic, but when guns and attachments are based on arbitrary goals an issue starts happening where, by the time you have a new gun there's no real reason to switch because you've gotten used to and unlocked a ton of things for the starter weapons giving you no real reason to switch, unless the new weapon is just objectively better, but if they do that the game balance will be completely broken

That is a good way to look at it. I know in RO2, I had a favorite weapon that I preferred based upon the role I took.

Progression unlocks has its places. It certainly fits the action-based, competitive FPS-genre like CoD for example. But this game is not one of those games. Same thing with Ready or Not for example. They're not designed to be played that way.

You have all gear available to you at all times, create your loadout depending on the situation at hand, prepare and execute. According to your preferences.

There you go! No fuss. Enjoy ^_^

How would it look if real, highly trained professional police/military outfits had to score 5 kills before he was allowed to equip a new pair of gloves or fetch a couple of flashbangs from the armoury for example? Doesen't really fit the "realistic"-vibe, does it? I don't think it does.

Could be an optional thing though. Don't really mind that. I don't have to use it.

It fits a "realism vibe" if a new team needs to prove themselves in the field before their budget is the size of the older, successful teams. It also fits that vibe if the troopers get better individually and cooperatively. Having a progression system doesn't mean that the game has to work like COD, and it doesn't mean that the game can't have "quick missions" that instantly give you access to everything, including characters with maximum stats (preferably randomly selected and not full for every attribute, for the sake of realism, dynamism, and replayability.)
