Nobody -- player or tango -- is modeled as getting any protection from body armor of any kind, so the main purpose of the MP7 and 4.6x30 isn't really there. It's planned ( https://trello.com/c/v7hazFpf/182-armor-system ) but isn't there yet. Once that *is* in, then there may be advantages to taking the MP7 vs. MPX, say.
The MK18 will still be a very appealing option if you're willing to accept greater length and weight, and less ammunition per magazine.
I just grabbed rough values for the 4.6x30mm round from a quick search to get it in and working.
People have volunteered to help replace it all with far more accurate data.
Just haven't got around to it.
One of those things :(
-It's going to be the lightest primary in the game
-It's going to be the most compact primary in the game
-Low recoil
-It will perform better against armor compared to other SMGs
-You can carry a lot of ammo for it (granted, the ammo economy is poor. Most assault rifles will give you 15-30 kills per magazine, whearas the MP7 will give you 13-10, assuming every round hits the torso of an enemy)
I doubt the MP7 will be a 'meta' weapon. To my understanding, it's not often used as a primary by Special Ops units and is normally regulated to specialist rolls such as dog handlers, EOD and the such.
In the future, I can see the MP7 having the following rolls:
-Lightweight weapon for breachers/medics who are carrying extra kit but want to keep up with their team
-Somewhat as an improv squad automatic weapon that can still perform in CQB compared to a belt fed
-Maybe being needed if a player has to bring minimalist kit into a country for a super-duper secret op. (Of course, I'm not sure what's planned for the campaign, so that's pure speculation.)
Now it is more realistic, or at least not overpowering every other weapon.
It's a niche weapon with flexible ammo options that PC (pistol caliber) PDW/SMG just don't have, imo.
