Can/will this be a thing?

It may be something that is modded in. I don't know about the Army, but we Marines were taught to never carry it by that, it is part of the sight after all. ;)

Not asking to carry the weapon by the carryhandle lol asking for them to be put in the game

I think he just wants to use classic irons for the AR platform weapons as an option. Someone in discord was also asking about some of the old tube sights in that could be mounted to the carry handle.

I never got to shoot an M-16 with any optic, even out to 500 yards, but then again, I am ancient and as a winger, we didn't always need our rifles.

Can confirm. It's a sight not a handle in the Army too. But I agree, would be kinda cool to have that option as an optic.

Look. I was a Marine armorer for 4 years lol I know that you aren't normally supposed to carry it like that. You can google it though because it is, in fact, called a carryhandle because that is what it is and what it was originally designed for before everyone realized what a terrible idea it was (same thing with the saw carryhandle, though that one has more use when swapping barrels) and when you have 4 rifles in each hand that need to go into their respective racks ASAP then it becomes quite a useful attachment.

My main reason for wanting it added is from an aesthetic standpoint. Any tactical shooter worth its salt needs 4 things IMO: balaclavas (check), ballistic goggles (check), MP5SD (check) and a classic M4 with carryhandle

Adding one would be cool from a nostalgia perspective :)

I would be forever grateful if you did. The game is still incredible either way, and some throwback gear wouldn't hurt!

Yeah, wouldn't mind a m16a2 either.

I don't know if they still do it (now that optics are more rugged) but well into the 2000s special forces did at times deploy with just iron sights/carry handle if lots of water or high chances of breakage was involved.

Yeah.
From 2001, right at the start of the video:

Same here. If I had my way games would still feature the CAR-15 instead of the M4, but I know that's just a dream :P

Really hope it is planned. I've read FAQ and Roadmap. Wish Ground Branch had basic colt carryhandle as ironsight option (you can also mount acogs and other ris/plank attachments which is very comfortable in usage)

It is simiple, reliable, useful. Due having a short/open tunnel vision it helps to focus your eye on target

:cta_emo2: Interesting necro. I bet if devs don't add carry handle iron sights that the modding community will get to it.

:steamhappy: I trained with an ACOG but I was one of the last Marines unit to qualify in the rifle range with iron sights only. People don't believe me now when I say that I used to shoot at targets 500 yards away with just iron sights lol.
