iv encountered a problem i cant seen to get rid of the flickering on text ingame and on menu, have you or anyone else know of a fix for this (except window mode) it works but refuse to play on such a small screen :P

ok you can try this
go into the game folder/SE5/Data and find the settings.txt file
and add Support Multithreading := TRUE under Allow sound
The game is a little old and will take a little tweaking to run best

All i can say is try running it right from the .exe in winxp compatibility mode
failing that try googling the problem, its fairly common and there are a few other fixes you can try depending on the hardware in your system

One way to maybe reduce the flickering is to find the .exe of the game, right click on it, select properties, go to the compatibility tab, and put the game into compatibility mode for Windows XP. Playing around with other compatibility options might help as well. Best of luck.

tried this but it results in the missing.dll error, had to delete the exe and re-verify to get it to work again :(

I keep my older computer going just for this game alone! ( and Red Baron ) because it runs XP which runs Space Empires just fine. Ive found Win7 to flicker and have issues with space empires. At any rate, I reccomend the star trek ship sets which can be found at the se5 shipyard website. I know everyone raves about the Balance Mod but Im not a fan of it. I like some of it's ideas though.

Crimson Concept is also nice. It takes BM and mocifies it.

I use the star trek ship sets. I wish I could take the better graphics for the planets and install that only, but Ive found it causes problems when I try it

It has been awhile but I believe I changed the video input in Optons.

I went back to playing Space Empires on my computer that has XP. I also found out how to use the better planets graphics along with my star trek ship sets. The only issue now is the poor AI. It is really stupid!
