Access violation at address 00484C20 in module 'se5.exe'. Read of address 00000000
I get this access violation error occasionally. any idea what brings this on?

i just installed it on a computer that it used to work on....getting same thing. Would love to see if anyone has figured out how to get it working :L

try this:

Go here C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\SpaceEmpiresV\SE5 (or wherever your install is located). You should have these folders, if any are missing create them.

Data
Docs
Empires
Fonts
GameSetups
Gametypes
History
Maps
Music
Pictures
SaveEmpires
Savegame
Scenarios
Sounds
Temp
Utilities

Make sure they are spelled and capitalized the way the are here. Any other problems just ask :D

It's generaly from my experience the temp folder that causes the problems.

yea I had the same problem till I added those files, now I just get a screen flicker once in a while, but the game works.

heh.... Well heres hoping you dont need all the data that should have been int he folders as my latest reinstall was missing 6 of them


Sadly, Im still getting a range check error which leads directly to the same error message with read of address being 000000EC

This is what fixed it for me. Had to do this on two machines. I've posted this up on so many of these threads just now in the last 15 minutes they're all going to be at the top of this forum lol. But at least others with the problem will not be able to miss the solution haha.

Galactic civilization 3 is a pretty good replacement for this game. FYI.

It's time to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this POS!
I've had enough of the constant crashes from merely clicking on the sytem map, and hard sytem resets due to large battles that lock up windows with a looping sound bug.

Add the ever longer turn waits and it's no longer worth it, the enjoyment is far outweighed by the aggravation.

Time to look for something that doesn't crash constantly.
