Is there more to defense

I'm loving the way this game is looking and that it is locked on like other 3D fighters (Tekken, DOA, VF, SC)
Something I'm not liking is how the defense is. I know it won't be on the level 3D fighters since it has the full body block but is there more to defense. I feel like I might be missing something.

That depends on what you mean. As it is right now the block is fairly simple with just one button, but multiple characters have counters in their kits and side steps can be used to dodge attacks and close gaps. Everyone also has access to Hoho (movement abilities like Shunpo, Sonnido, Hierkyaku, etc.) that can be used to like sidesteps, and if perfectly timed on dodges will activate a cinematic Nothing-Personal-Kid (NPK) move and jump behind their opponent.
