"Compared to"? You realize both DQ 11 and Octopath Traveler are considered instant classics, even though they have released relatively recently? They are about just as well regarded as any Persona game... Man, tell me you don't play JRPGS without telling me you don't play them.
I feel like typical JRPGs tend to go a bit too far with exposition and fantasy elements right off the bat, that has been my experience with them generally. The only ones I enjoy really are Persona games, Pokemon (if that counts lol), and the Mario & Luigi games (if those count as well). I've tried final fantasy a bunch of times, octopath traveler, and yea I agree that Persona really hooks you right off the bat.
It probably has to do with the fact that the stories in Persona are instantly relatable so even when they start getting a bit too weird (ie Teddy in 4 or Morgana in this one) it's easy to forgive.
To be fair to other JRPGs, it might just be due to different cultural sensibilities in story telling from eastern stories to western audiences.
Idk if I'd call those other JRPGs bad, just different, and almost certainly not for me.
Sure go ahead and make assumptions about what i play or don't play simply because my perspective on things don't match yours heh
I haven't played persona 1 and 2 so can't say much about them but among 3 , 4 and 5 , 3 has the strongest story imo but it starts off a bit slow but when it picks up it's great , 4 is also great with the best cast of characters hands down
I do like the asthetics and music for the most part(DQ11 was annoying/killing me with the high notes) . I think the way they tell the story is very stiff or the depth of it is feels very shallow. As for mechanics, Persona 5 kept introducing new things as you progress into the story, but Octopath Traveler's height of mechanics is by chapter 2. Nothing gets introduced that so everything that comes after it feels really grindy or gets old really fast.
... and the point is?
