i nirmally don't go for visual novels. I liked dungeon crawling and fighting enemies and leveling up and collecting the different personas and combining them.
the visual novel, time management, what your character chooses to do during the day is the main focus of the game, while the dungeon crawling is a side project.
persona 3 limited the time you could spend in the dungeon and limited when you could go in and limitied how many persona you could carry back home with you and then you combine them to make new ones. your characters also would get tired and want to leave after a time, so you couldn't hustle stay in there forever. .without exploiting.
persona 4 , at least let you stay in the dungeon as long as you want, but were still limited when you could go in,
not saying these games in this series aren't real jrpgs, they have the combat and have character leveling, and have equipment and bosses and stuff, but these are visual novels first, jrpgs second.
that being said, i've been wanting to olay this forever. i come to this page whenever i see a sale, hoping to see the "denuvo" removed. .
i dunno. maybe i'm just stupid, believing all the bad stuff i read about denuvo and trying to hold to my convictions that i don't support unnecessary invasive anticonsumer kernel level third party software
Answer me, and I'll answer you.
"Could" it have been trimmed? Sure. Should" it have been? IDK. Some of the self-indulgent, not really necessary beats have also been some of the best.
Plus, it's not big for the amount of content it delivers, and runs on a potato. I know "too long" and "too big" are different questions, but they tie together.
I think the only possible answer is that it's as long as Atlus wanted it to be, and if it keeps me entertained for a month? Well, that's money well spent.
And given im old,i get bored of games after 30 hours
because of that timeline, knowing that end date is approaching and the characters even talk about it, because they know that calendar day is coming up and I got so immersed in the story, I did not want it to end, but i knew it was going to end. the closer i got to the end, the less inclinned i became to want to finish, but then i wanted to see the end,
the characters themselves know that the day is coming and there is a bit of an air of ominouness about that final day.
P3 also had that depression and suicide theme to it. P4 went with a somewhat lighter theme. but we always know that timer is going to end.
I assume the games are meant to be played through multiple times on a NG+ as there's no way to max out all the character bonds on the first playthrough without a guide. . I used the guide from gamefaqs to max out all the bonds, it leaves no margin for error, you gotta do exactly what the guide says to do. .
if one plays the games organically and just spends the days the way one wants to, it probably would take a minimum of 2 playthroughs to see everything.
I'm more chiing in about that feeling i got, when i wanted the game to end, but i didn't want it to end, because ending it meant that i had to say goodbye to everyone.
I'm not even normally a visual novel player, but those were well written. I'll never trash these games. i just trash the inclusion of the third party software.
And yet, as a fellow elder, I'd bet there's a book you've read at least four times. Even though you know exactly what's going to happen, and have memorized some passages.
I've played plenty of 30 hour games that felt too long. And while P5R "could" have been trimmed by a dozen hours, I'm glad it wasn't. Because the presentation is so jaw-droppingly good (especially with a 4K screen and Dolby sound), that it's worth every shameless self-indulgent minute.
Tho,i am that old guy who watches same sitcoms every single day so i guess that counts? Seen two and a half men about 25 times by now( wish i was kidding)
as for persona games, i dunno, i get bored half way with them being on same loop story and still gaining allies. I have over 90+ hours in persona 5 but best part is i never finished it because pc crashed on it, stopped after forehead chick arc
But persona 5 has best music in all of gaming history
nothing beats beneath the mask
And yes, this might be the best original music in gaming history. (Marvel's Guardians has it beat for best soundtrack, due to good taste and an insane budget to buy licensed songs)
