Persona 5 Royal
Kasumi is the worst character in the game!
It just blows my mind how some people can even remotely think that Kasumi is a good character in any way. She feels completely out of place in the setting and it's obvious that she was implemented later on, since she is basically completely disconnected to the main story.

Her backstory is shallow and boring and all she does is simping for the protagonist in a super annoying way. Her interactions with the main cast make no sense. And on top of that her perfectionism and "talent" for gymnastics just feels extremely superficial.

We need to stop putting these shallow female sidekicks into RPGs and instead focus on characters that actually have depth and character development to them. Kasumi is just not it, that's a fact not an opinion!

Well, you're entitled to your own opinion OP, even if it's wrong.

Understandable that people dislike Kasumi since Royal makes her the canon pairing for Joker. It ruins people's headcanons.

We all know that's the actual reason for all the hate.

Probably. The game doesn't make any pairing canon at all, and only the shippers who get mad over things like these are degenerate enough to think it does. So yeah, that's probably where the hate comes from.

I don't see this as a problem. But I also find Kasumi as a boring character. There isn't much interesting things about her before 3rd semester, but even then she feels like a non-party member with a silly story. Even Haru (that's regretfully feels hollow and don't have a lot of screen time) feels much brighter than Kasumi if set in one line.

Even this thread feels more like gathering of whiteknights that defend her just because of her looks.

Exactly!

Imagine being an adult and still not being able to assess whether a character is well written or not, just because the "looks" are nice. People need to grow up.

If we're doing a comparison of P4G and P5R I would say barely.

Really? You think an added party member thats only there in the postgame is more intrusive than a new character that changes the entire game narrative?

Marie changed the entire game? She had one dungeon with a new hang-out event and was aligned with the original lore of the final boss who separated herself. Hell first time I played golden I completely ignored her social link and the game didn't really change at all from the original.

Even doing the social link she BARELY involves herself with the games main story. She's more an added extra to give context to the initial lore of that story. The True Ending was the only significant change to Persona 4 with her.

Kasumi was LITERALLY added in with cutscenes SPECIFICALLY for her to be forced into the story before 3rd semester. Constantly being referred to and the game pushing her in your face to hang out with her. Even a lot of the hang outs were forced via story. I mean ffs they even shoe-horned Akechi knowing her just to move the story along for 3rd semester.

Marie is so far from that. She may not be a saint in characters, but better written by far when put against Kasumi.

I mean different taste and different likes? I personally find Kasumi and Maruki story great. While I find Makoto pretty overrated and Ryuji is annoying. Everyone likes different characters. The biggest problem with Kasumi is the same with Haru. The lack of screentime. Even with the small pop ins, she only really shows up and gets explored in one semester.

It's ofc different in taste, but here we discuss writing and story, not char looks. Ruiji feels immature, but he is a teenager which seeks attention. I could easily belive that lot of people would behave like that in reality if were given those powers. So being annoying or immature doesn't mean that he bad-written. I'm not sure what you don't like in Makoto story. You ofc may consider her not a best person to date, but her story is also solid and her relationships with Sae make her alive as a character (maybe just a bit bip-bop). But TS speaks about writing and both Ruiji and Makoto have a good backstory without any BS and don't feel artificial or forced. While Kasumi don't even feels natural and her story is more like a BS. Maruki being a taxi driver is some other BS that's put there just becase. The people who designed 3rd semeseter and characters could've done it better.

Not sure how you can argue that Ryuji and Makoto have good backstories while Kasumo does not. They're all pretty generic backstories to begin with. Hot headed deliquent with a good heart, textbook pres who keeps everyone in line, and polite kohai with insecurities and inferiority complex. Honestly, I think it becomes a problem once again of screen time. Haru now gets more interactions with the cast while Kasumi barely has any due to not being a phantom thief and locked mainly to the third semester. She only really interacts with you and somewhat Akechi.

My point is, while Kasumi isn't the best written character in the game, I definitely wouldn't say shes the worst. Imo worst is still Shinya and the best in Royal is Maruki due to his views vs the phantom thieves.

Yes, they are generic, but Kasumi is not less generic, which I don't even feel like "alive". I agree that lack of screen time also problem, but I find it still bad. Just remove her from the plot and nothing will happen, when even Haru has good roles in everything. As I said I think that 3rd semester is pretty bad. They've could put Kasumi earlier. But when you check how they put her in the game and after you watch ending - you will understand that they were not that interested to fuse her nicely in the story, because it would take more time and effort to do. So they did half-assed 3rd semester for a quick cash grab.
I'm Ok with counselor, found some trivia interesting, but I didn't like him cosplaying 4th chairman of Tojo clan and becoming a taxi driver.

They probably could of integrated her into the story better, I won't disagree. However to call her story shallow and shes the worst character when Shinya and Ohya exist is a joke. Personally I like how Maruki ideals clashed with the phantom thieves. They did do him dirty by making him a cab driver, but I kinda wonder if thats a japanese thing that was lost in translation.
Oh boy... aren't you about to have your mind blown.
