Need help with Akechi [SPOILERS]

How do I save him before he dies in Shido’s palace?
I heard you have to get his Confidant to Level 10, then either say to him “I’ll consider it,” or “We’re rivals,” to help him join after Shido’s palace.
Is there anything else I need to do in order to make sure it all goes well?? I checked online and there’s all sorts of conflicting info ab getting Akechi to rejoin.

You can only get the justice confidant up to rank 8, the rest are tie to story progression. On the rank 8 event, you have to accept akechi's challenge. There is a cutscene where your character is on the bed thinking about the events tied akechi and you have to pick "I want to keep our promise."

You need to say “I’ll consider it,” or “We’re rivals,” during his 7 level confidant. Then, after his death, in your room, you need to choose "I want to keep our promise.". That's all

Basically the real akechi can’t be saved he literally dies in that palace no matter what you do.

But the Akechi created from jokers cognition by maruki in the royal dlc he can be saved.

Max his confidant in the base game and choose these dialogue options.

When fighting him at rank 8
Accept his promise to duel.

When meeting him in shidos palace declare we are rivals.

When in bed after shidos palace choose I want to keep our promise.

You’ll know you did it right when talking to Akechi before the raid on marukis palace cause akechis persona goes through evolution.

The Akechi lives ending however isn’t that much different than the normal royal ending.

You just catch a glimpse of him walking by as joker is leaving
