Your thoughts: Persona 4 vs Persona 5?
Goes without saying I'm referring to Golden/Royal versions.

At first, after my initial playthrough of 5, I found myself having enjoyed 4 MUCH more during my first playthrough. It blew me away and all my spare time was spent playing 4. The best part about it by miles was the story and the character dynamics. When I finished 4, I immediately booted up NewGame+ and played a second time. Amazing experience.

After having played 4 and coming into 5, I really wasn't that blown away or excited. I wasn't in a rush to finish the game as I didn't find the story that compelling... The characters were meh and I played through pretty slowly. What I DID like about 5's story was the main big twist, that was pretty cool. Other than that I was a bit underwhelmed.

NOW, having played 5 a few more times, I find myself appreciating it MUCH more than I did before. I feel like literally everything in 5 is better than 4, EXCEPT the story. I still feel like 4 had the best story by far, but in every other aspect (including characters now) 5 wins for me.

Now I have no idea which game I prefer lol. If I did another playthrough of either of these games, it would probably be 5 just because of the QOL stuff, combat, gameplay, etc.

How about you guys? What were your experiences like?

what I didnt like in P5R is the Devs forcing Kasumi/Sumire to fit into the story + her Confidant rank also stuck at rank 5 until Very late game so it means I can't date her + no Valentine,Beach and Xmass romance event for her :strangely:

Yeah I agree it’s unfortunate we only get to use her in final dungeon. Pretty silly.

In term of gameplay sure P5R is more fun but for story I agree with you P4G are much better.

combat P4G win, because i actually use my brain to do knock down and end fight with AoA (for mobs), because if i am able to end fight with AoA i can get a guaranted chance to trigger shuffle time that can grant me stats for my persona ( i don't want rely with sweep bonus), in P5R the only bonus after end fight with AoA is more money, beside it then only negotiation, not to mention ryuji's insta kill really kill the purpose playing a turn based game, sure i can simply don't press dash, but i wish i can turn off that feature compeletely. I tried to copy my P4G style to P5R, end up i use ailment ranged weapon (thanks iwai perks) then do technical damage to end the fight with AoA then Alarm triggered and i must come back to Velvet Room, so in term combat and also grinding persona stats tbh i prefer P4G, although P4G take longer time but hey i am enjoying it

Fishing, P5R win, after multiple playthrough finally i can get 100k+ points per playthrough more efficiently

gardening, P4G, i mean Narukami actuallly the one who maintain the plant along with Nanako, P5R? it's actually Haru's hobby or job i think?

ultimate persona, P5R win, Satanael has Tyrant's Mind as unique skill and thanks to Satanael now i am loving Black Viper so much (i never liked P4G black viper before i start to play P5R), InO P4G doesn't have anything beside to extract Victory Cry skill card

ailments, P5R win, after i play P5R now i can appreciate ailments mechanic in P4G, technical damage here i boom everything

characters, still P4G, Kanji alone wins by a lot, Dojima vs Sojiro as father figure tbh i prefer Dojima, i mean look Dojima is a detective but he still have spare time to talk with Narukami, while Sojiro now is a cafe owner, he is inside Leblanc most of his time. Nanako is precious btw

story, again P4G, especially P4 the animation, i watch both P4 animation and P5 animation inlcuding P4G animation, yep P4G wins

Gameplay, sure P5R, in its glory full sized human-like model, really eye catching pause UI, skill UI, but don't get me wrong i don't want P4G or P4 get its remake, stay chibi forever.

5 > 4. 4 was insanely easy and the story is... not the best. it likes to recycle previous plots as well as a lot of the writing being cringe or breaking the believably of the characters. 3 was better then 4, but 3 is not better then 5.

I feel like 5 was wayy easier than 4.

A lot of people I've talked to died at least once on the first dungeon in their first playthrough when attempting to 1-day clear it.

Yeah, I felt the same too. I thought original P5 was easier than original P4 and Royal was easier than Golden. Not every game has to be difficult obviously, but I thought Royal was far more busted than Golden even without taking the DLC personas into account.

P5 is better mechanically than P4 as well its builded upon p4's design (duh)
P4 imo got better shown friendships(dont know how to say it) than P5 as in P5 it feels that whole party is glued together by MC while in P4 people got other friendships between each other.
P5 got Ryuji which is a big minus (damn each time I just want to smack that idiot)
P5 is easier to exploit than P4 as P4 doesnt have battle skip like p5 (its from Ryuji's SL but its early as hell)
P5 is easier to get all SL's as it got better spread between day/night ones
Also P4 got... Great Vegetables :D

Both games are great, but I prefer P4 over P5. Its in large part because of the cast.

I don't actually find the game play to be better in P5 over P4. I honestly prefer the hallway dungeons of P4 to P5's dungeons. The P5 dungeons admittedly look cooler, but the stealth elements and puzzles aren't that interesting, especially after the first play through.

Ryuji and Morgana are sibling characters when it comes to examining their self-worth and purpose in life. Morgana is struggling with that for the most part but he gets a happy ending, Ryuji is carefree but reality hits him like a brick several times. I sympathized with Morgana more though.

Ironically I might be leaning more towards Yosuke over Teddie with P4 though.

P4 Golden is superior in the cast and the story, but nothing can surpass P5's castles, I loved to crack down the gimmicks.

Basically this! Except for the Ryuji part. I really like him!
P4 cast has greater chemistry. By far.
But even though some elements P4 does better, I still prefer P5. Purely subjective

Can you elaborate on this?

I actually feel like P5 did friendships between other party members better?

Like, when Makoto and Ann talk and apologise to each other, Ann and Ryuji with their joking around and dynamic between each other, the whole party taking Futaba out and spending time with her like a girl's day, etc. I guess I kinda see it with Kasumi and Haru as they don't really have friendships with the others tho.

But in P4, I feel like it's just Chie and Yukiko with each other, as well as Chie and Yosuke (similar to Ann and Ryuji).

They are kind of similar in that respect no?

I do get how P4 has more 'social scenes' and field trips etc between the entire cast, so there's those moments where the boys bond with each other and the girls in their spa thing.
