Try playing a little after the "legal action" and see how you feel about it. If you feel underwhelmed by how the story's unfolded in the next week or two, I worry it will come across as a drag for a while, so you might wanna consider putting it off.
If you aren´t playing on Hard you can skip a bit of the grinding in Mementos. If you don´t like Mementos then don´t bother with Persona 3. EVER. Tartarus is ASS
Cause after dungeon 5, it definitely starts moving forward faster but thats also where the plot kind of goes into a different direction. Some people really love where a certain character goes, while others think it comes out of nowhere.
Dungeon 1-4 is pretty good, 5 is a mess and the worst part of the story easily, 6-8 are ok or questionable, 9 is Royal.
5 is less characters and more about keeping the story going. So you dont get as much good character insight as you do in 4 (outside of Futaba since her palace is all about her).
4 is also arguably better written? There is no "Palace 5 Morgana/Ryuji moment", and Adachi is a much better as a villain than original 5's villain.
Still think its worth playing through 5, but you wont get the same attachment to the characters and the story is a little messy.
Like I said, the game peaks on the first and last palace.
