I love all the Persona stories ( you can also watch the Persona animes which are all top notch, preferably after playing the games since they obviously spoil the hell out of the game experience). This one is the second best of them all (the best story is in 3 imho). It has everything anime fans normally like. A good cast ( except one dude ) .. nice plot twists.. some action. High stakes story, most polished Persona gameplay. It's a hefty long game. A LOT of reading and a lot of small side stories which are all pretty nicely written imho.
I double dipped on this game because of the good story, relaxing gameplay .. perfect for the steamdeck.
You can't go wrong with the Persona franchise. Except that the new port of P3P seems to be pretty bad.. where everyone recommends using ps2 emulator for FES.
P4G has the weakest story (low stakes, mainly a small town detective story) but still super good. Mainly because of the awesome cast. It carries the weak dungeon gameplay.
But for story wise, i recommend play 4, 3 then 5. 5 story is not that great compare others.
I play this game for grind stats and NG+, this game is not hard, this game has its own story, i play both 4 and 5 but skip 3 because i have already spoiled by 3D model and i don't really like 2D visual novel, i come from P4 original PS2 then P4G then P5R, so yeah P4G and P5R is my own choice, wished i started from 3, but here i am loving both 4 and 5
But that's my opinion. Nothing objective about it. Play the games yourself and form your own opinion.
This isn´t an alternative here. The 2 hour limit for refund is completely broken for RPGs, should be at least 5.
Story for me is a 8.5/10.
And for such a long game even 5 hours is too short. You will barely finish the tutorial. If OP doubts that he will like the story, I would suggest to watch some playthroughs without comments.
If you want mystery, comedy, drama, a complete satisfy feeling then play P4 Golden
If you want a meh story, boring characters but beautiful graphic and best gameplay then play P5
If you want to play all but don't know the orders. Play 3 first then 4 then 5.
But I would not recommend P3P remastered because there is no movie cut-scenes, no 3D map, no after story. The game itself is great but P3P version is an incomplete experience of P3.
It's very surface level in its message about rebellion and fighting corruption while staying true to your beliefs. It's like a teenage punk who dresses up and gets mad about something but doesn't understand why nor actually tries to get to the root of the issue, just whatever is in front of them.
That being said it's usually the characters who drive in the interest around the story, not the other way around.
P3 has a better story and P4 has better characters but that doesn't mean it's bad, just not the peak.
Though I would argue the additional story/final boss is well written.
