How the hell do you slack off in class?

Went from 0 to 9 on Kawakami's social link but I've never had any control over anything in class in that time. Can someone tell me how it happens?

This happens on set days only and automatically.
Always a good chance to read a book.

so the other skill that gives you free time in other teachers' classes also works the same way? I won't be able to leave class and walk around outside?

No, you will never be able to leave class. Kawakami will call a teacher away over the intercom and you'll get a selection of things to do. Slacking off just allows you to do things like sleep, read, and craft tools.
