I'm torn between playing the game on English Or Japanese
From the opinions and reviews, it seems to be entirely 50/50, I dunno!

For English, the main characters are fantastic, but some of the generic NPCs sound like they ran out of budget for voice actors and just grabbed a tech intern from the recording studio. But generic NPCs only make up, like, 5% max of the spoken dialogue, so it's still mostly fantastic.

For Japanese... it's serviceable. For some reason, there's still people stuck on the whole 'Japanese voice acting is always superior' thing, which hasn't been true since the 90s if it was ever true at all. The Persona series' JP casting has never been bad, but it's always trended towards the super-generic and forgettable.

Just try both and see what you like more

Depends. Do you want Morgana stopping you from going out by saying "Hey" or "Oi"?

Japanese so you can skip text and make the game go by faster

Pick Japanese for the whole weeb sensation. Also Japanese voice acting is always superior.

Japanese. Especially Soichiro and Yusuke have absolutely fantastic seiyuus voicing them.

The only reason to play sub is because Morgana's "Oi?", "Yaru janai ka!", "Naru hodo.. hmm hmm..".

Because it's superior, as always. With Japanese daily life as the background, Japanese VA captures the feeling far more than dub.

Just see how cute Futaba and Morgana in Japanese. That's how a character named "Futaba" should act, with high pitch "Hontou nii??" or "Joka, kakkoiiii!!".
I think the people that don't like dub simply are original speakers of english. They understand the language, and how bad it can sound. The japanese voices are ones they can't understand or even if they can, they're not native speakers. They don't acknowledge that a person that is a native speaker of japanese probably thinks the japanese actors to be quite corny themselves and when the game throws in the occasional english word that's "cool" while for us it just sounds stupid.

Japanese VA sounds more like they are acting, they put far more emotion into their voices and it sounds more genuine.

English VA sounds more like they are reading off a script while on recording and at most scenes they sound flat.

When Joker says, "It's Showtime!" in English I get all excited. It's not as good in Japanese. Haru in English is god awful. She alone is reason enough to try the Japanese VAs. I've enjoyed both overall though. You can't go wrong.

Well, if you understand at least some Japanese, you should choose the original voices. But if your understanting is zero, what's the point in listening to Japanese audio?

Better voices in the original japanes dub overall so there is barely a question. Also is not helped that the game has the same handfull of english VAs as everything else.

Unless you know Japanese this is a weak argument imo.

Certain weebs understand nothing about the culture, have never lived over there, don't understand the nuances and idiosyncrasies of the language but believe that somehow they can tell that the emotion is better or appropriate.

Personally I think in many cases it's better to enjoy it in the language you understand best. It's fine to appreciate other cultures and delve into their language a bit but MOST people are fooling themselves when they think they have the knowledge to know it's better.

I have a rudimentary understanding of Japanese so most of the Japanese language quirks are totally lost on me. It's pointless to play it in Japanese, especially because the higher pitch of many characters is personally aggravating to me. Had the same problem with JP adult Goku vs Funi dub.

That said, let's add more to this, let's just stop trying to push our subjective opinions that we can't even back up with any irrefutable evidence.

Let people play/watch dubs and stop being such insufferable, pompous, self-important weebs about it.

I am playing it with English voices since it is making me follow the story much easier. English voices are good, but i do plan to try it with Japanese voice sometimes
