Stressed already before buying
Hey guys,

I only heard good stuff from Persona 5, but from what i understood, you are racing against the clock for every single thing, and you HAVE to do that before this date, and have to do this every single day, and if you forget or dont do something, it's permanently missed.

I'm scared that i'll do forget something 20 hours in, and it'll come back and ruin my game at hour 90, if you understand what i mean.

Are my fears justified, or am i overreacting ?

What are the absolute MUST do if i want to enjoy the game to the fullest ?

I'm really tempted to buy it as it really looks like an amazing game.

You do have regular deadlines for the story, yes. But the game does give you plenty of time to complete them.

There are missable events or requirements that can lock you out of the true end of the game. They are pretty easy to miss but if you look up some spoiler-free guide on what you need to do, it's also pretty easy to ensure you don't miss them.

I would argue that the most important thing to focus on is the social aspects (specifically your bonds with other characters), as they are tied to very useful skills and resources that will help you.

I would also argue that you should rotate your saves in case you make a mistake and want to go back a day or so. I often save once per day (it takes just a few seconds) and then if I accidentally waste a day or commit to activity that takes too much time, I can easily rewind.

It's an amazing game with a lot of content and a great story, so I definitely do recommend it. But do be sure to look up a spoiler-free explanation of what you need to do to get the true ending, because it's a long game and it's a very good ending sequence.

Overreacting. If you absolutely don't want to miss anything, use a day by day guide or just keep multiple saves separated by a couple days or a week.

You can also just get what you missed in New game+

Persona 5 Royal is by far the most forgiving of the series, and you have more than enough time to do everything worthwhile so long as you make the most of your time.

A few key points:

You'll want to start the Temperance and Fortune Confidants as early as possible and progress them as quickly as possible; this is expensive, as Fortune requires 100k yen to begin, and Temperance requires 5k yen per visit, but they make a huge difference in time management and progression. You'll also want to prioritize Councilor and Faith to unlock the additional content added in Royal.

Specifically, Temperance gives you more opportunities to gain social stats without spending time, and at max level gives you the ability to go out at night after visiting a dungeon. Fortune gives you additional bonuses that, again, you have to pay for, but are super worthwhile. Luck Reading will let you choose one of your social stats, and for the rest of the day any points gained towards that stat will be boosted by 50%, while Affinity Reading will let you choose a Confidant who's not ready to advance and gain some extra points towards towards their next rank. You can use the map to check which Confidants (of the ones that are available) are ready to advance and which aren't.

On that note, I would recommend at least considering a guide that gives you the best answers for each Confidant event. All that happens if you choose the other answers is that you get fewer points and run the risk of having to burn additional time or Affinity Readings to make up for it. Additionally, always have a Persona of the same arcana as the Confidant you're visiting or doing an Affinity Reading for; again, if you don't you're just throwing away points which just translates into throwing away time.

For social stats, you generally want to keep them even. I'm sure there's an optimized progression to them, but you're generally safe if you just level them in the order of Guts -> Charm -> Proficiency -> Kindness -> Knowledge -> repeat.

Doing dungeons as quickly as possible and in as few visits as possible is always recommended. For the bonuses in Mementos, I recommend getting Items up to 5 first, then max out Money. After that, it's your choice whether you want to keep working on Items or start working on Experience -- personally, I don't think the Experience bonus matters. Gaining levels increases your power, which is nice, but there are other, more effective ways to increase your power (most of which require money), and it's entirely possible to hit max level without the Experience bonus.

But mostly, if you somehow do end up missing something, that's what New Game+ is for, so don't worry too much.

It could seem a bit daunting but the idea is just play and have fun becoming strong to reach the end. :silentslime:

relax, this game mean to play at least two times, just enjoy the game and don't seek completenist on first playthrough, if something is missing u can get another chance on second playthrough.

Do you keep everything you 'completed' on NG+ or do i have to start over again fresh with same "levels" ?

What i mean by that is, is it easier to complete what i've missed in a NG+ ?

Thanks for all the clarifications btw people, i'll buy it today, this thread and the music "River in a dry land" i found on youtube convinced me.

You keep your social stats (guts, kindness, etc), your list of personas, your usable items, equipment, money, and special key items from maxing out relationships that give you access to some of their skills as soon as you unlock them again. There may be others, but I can't recall.

It is far easier to get everything on NG+

I think it's easier to say that what you LOSE is your current level, your actively equipped persona's, your current social link levels and your usable items (except for the gifts you get from any girl you romanced)... everything else (social stats, money, persona compendium, some key items etc etc) you all keep....

Also; it's not a race to the finish... you get plenty of time and unless you want to go for a 100% run on your first playthrough you can really take it easy.

The game gives you a comfy amount of time to do whatever you need. It sounds a lot more stressful than it is.

Nope.

The only biggie is the third Semester (the Royal content) which requires you have one particular confidant maxed. Getting to that point is pretty trivial (you can in fact ignore it for most of the game and still have time to do it in the last month. Though since you get some nice bonuses for ranking up that confidant it's the kind of thing you'd want to do sooner rather than later).
There's two more confidants related to Royal that also need to be maxed by a certain point, but if you fail to do so it's largely just a few cutscene changes and a potential team mate you'll miss. Again, you get far more time than you need to do this.
Most of the rest of the timed content is largely cutscene related. For some of the dates for example you need to have certain confidants at certain levels for them to be an option, otherwise you're stuck hanging out with Ryuji.

If you have any experience with the Persona gameflow, you can comfortably max out everything and end up with damn near two full months of free time to just do whatever you want.

If you don't have any experience, I imagine it might be a bit tighter. There are multiple bad endings, but you basically have to completely go against the flow of the scenes in question in order to get them. You CAN miss out on the expansion content, but the requirement isn't that extreme - just max out Councillor and you'll get it. Justice and Faith get you extra content within that expansion content, but they're technically optional.

The important things to know are that you get extra points for your social links when you have the matching arcana in your... I guess you could think of it as a "deck". That, plus realizing how important pumping your 5 social stats are, give you a real chance of getting a 100% run even on your first try.

If you're truly worried about it, you can look up what choices get you the most affection points. No shame in that. I wouldn't go so far as to look up a day-by-day guide - you can if you want to, I guess, but this isn't P3:FES where you have like 4 days of wiggle room. You have like 40-50.

Chill man, theres not too much you can miss and the deadlines might as well not exist. Especially if you do the palaces everyday untiil you finish them. You always find a spoiler free guide of things that have deadlines, theres not much.

One of the key differences between this and other 'time sensitive games', is that there is almost no running timers. With very few exceptions, you can explore, fight, think, and so on as long as you want; time only progresses when you perform certain actions, so you can take as much time as you want before performing those actions.

To give a more concrete explanation, a normal day is typically split into a 'daytime' slot and a 'nighttime' slot. During the day you can explore the city and go shopping, then choose to spend time hanging out with a friend. Only the latter action causes time to move forward to your nighttime slot, where you may choose to study for school, or read a book, or watch a movie, and so on, which will progress time to the next day.

I would go blind for your first playtrough. Using a guide doesn't make a lot of sense if you want to enjoy the story by yourself the first time. NG+ with a guide is, i think, the way to go to do the true ending.
