Ryuji's level 7 ability not working?

I just got it. It's the one where you are supposed to instakill weaker enemies on ambushes, however I just was going through mementos and did an ambush on dozens of blue (thus weaker) enemies and not a single one did an insta-kill, they all brought me into the battle

What gives? I thought this was supposed to be some farming strat or something

It works different in P5R vs P5. Just ram into them at full speed. Don't press the attack button.

The enemy has to be at least 10 levels below yours, which will now show as a green outline to your Thief's Vision, and as stated, you simply dash into them.

This, ambushes always starts a battle, to do the insta kills you need to ram into them while pressing R2.

The instant kill only works on green enemies.

Yes, also you now also get the money, exp and items from the battle as well.
