Do dungeons have as much backtracking as Persona 4?
I really liked the story and characters in P4G but I couldn't be bothered with all the backtracking in later dungeons like "this door is locked go find an item 4 floors below you".

Is there as much of that BS in this?

The main dungeons are all handcrafted unlike P4, so there's none of that. Even if you did miss something, there's safe rooms you can fast travel between.

Mementos is similar to the dungeon designs of Persona 3 and 4, but you mostly only move forward (unless you're in there for side quests). But in both Mementos and the hand-crafted Palaces, you can quick travel to any save room you've visited. So if for some reason you need to go to a different part of the Palace, you can get there fast from any save room or the enterance.

The whole design philosophy of the Palaces are quite different from Tartarus or the TV World.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm just playing through the intro now and looking forward to dumping a load of hours into this.

Have fun. I managed 175 hours in my ps4 run.

That's an insane amount of hours. I could only find the PS3 version with some HD texture packs and performance mods for now. I'll probably get the Steam version once Denuvo is gone.
The only dungeon who you might feel repetitive is Kaneshiro's, all the others are very much linear.

The only backtracking I can remember in P4 was in Naoto's dungeon and Magatsu Inaba, and even then they're only a couple of floors' worth of backtracking. This, of course, is ignoring going back to the dungeons for quest items/optional bosses, but even then it's still a straight run through each.

But yes, as far as I can remember there's next to no backtracking at the scale you're thinking of in P5. Late in the first dungeon you do need to find two 'keys' that require you to go back, but they're in the previous two rooms, and due to the fact that you're playing Phantom Thieves that's surprisingly par for the course anyway.

Hope you have lots of fun!
