Never played Persona- Can I start here?
As title suggests, never played a Persona game I was wondering if this is a good starting point, or if I need the context of the other games to fully enjoy it?

-Sorry if it's been asked before :ss2heart:

I played a bit of P4G before this and now I'm playing it as from what I have heard, each persona is self-contained like Final Fantasy.

Yes, it's like a FF

Enjoy

Persona 5 Royal is a self-contained story; you do not need to know anything about the previous games to enjoy and understand P5R.

It is a good starting point.

Each Persona game is different, while kind of set in the same universe, you don't need to play the older ones understand the story of this one.

Yes. Story is kind of corny but overall the game is really good.

kinda true and untrue at the same time. You can defiently play any one and start from there but it is one continuous world with lots of easter eggs referencing the other games. and especially in the spinoffs case like arena are just straight up sequels.

Persona 5 is a great start though.

The games are self-contained, and this one was designed to attract the newbies to the series, so it is a perfectly valid entry point.

Playing other games in the series can lend some context and help draw a bigger picture, but this is not required to understand what's going on in each separate part and is more like a set bonus.
While they share the same setting and there's a unified timeline between them the only sequels are the ones that share the number (Royal and Strikers for 5, Eternal Punishment and Innocent Sin for 2), there's very little event overlap and each number has a unique character roster.
