Better than Persona 4 Golden?
I bought Persona 4 Golden some months ago, played it about 20 hours and then stopped. It was a cool game but I just didnt liked the battles and playing felt kind of like hard work.

Is Persona 5 Royal better or easier to get in as a newcomer? How is the story? I really liked the story of Persona 4 Golden because it was pretty dark for such a sweet game (pls no spoilers). How are the fights in Persona 5 Royal? Round battles?

Thanks :)

Imo it has more features better dungeons more creative style customization
yes that's better. The story is debatable some people like 4 more but I would argue majority enjoyed 5 the most.

In terms of gameplay P5 is, definitely, the most fun game in the franchise, so... yeah, it's better than P4G in that regard. I'd say that P5 is harder than P4G, but I played the classic version, not Royal -probably it's easier than classic P5-. However, keep in mind that P5R is a beast of +100hs, being the longest game in the franchise. Still, I think it's the most accessible game for a newcomer -it'll make harder for you to dive into the older games tho-.

In terms of story... P4G is better imo, P5 is a mess -among other stuff-, but the consensus says that P5 is better, so stick with that.

It is much improved in every aspect . The royal edition makes the game FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR easier , because the DLC persona that comes with it one shot everything including the final boss .

The char are far more recognizable in P5 and far better written and more associated with the society issues , even with the topics of mental health , where P4 's char still feel very dated , very stereotypical .

Yes, P5R is better but the story was rushed (was in development hell for like 5 years)
Gameplay: P5R > P4G
Story: P4G < P5R

Don't be like this guy, don't use the DLC personas, (you can summon them for free in game)

What is the story of Persona 5 Royal? Is it aimed to be more for kids?

I mean, the first boss rapes his students, and one of them tried to sewer slide... i think it's not aimed for kids, Persona is a spin off of Shin Megami Tensei.
Unless you think Succubus/Succubi are good for kids...

Thanks! Sounds good I think I will buy it when it comes out
I liked the characters in both games, but I think I liked more of them in P4. Im not a fan of Futaba. I find Haru dull, though she was more entertaining in Strikers, probably due to having more content for her. I really could care less about Ryuji and I actively dislike Mona. The rest of the cast I like. Though Kasumi is rather weak in terms of content, I didnt really develop any strong opinions of her. Her short character arc isnt bad, she just isnt around much.

In P4 I liked pretty much everyone. Even Teddy..... who I initially hated. But about midway through it was evident just how much more entertaining a charcter he was than Mona. I also did not initially like Kanji, though he turned out to be a rather fun character, though i didnt much care for him in combat. I thought Chie was kind of boring but she had a few moments that overall left me with a positive rather than neutral opinion.

As for gameplay everything about P5R is clearly better except like others have said the story. Its a personal choice which story is better. P4 has a more straightforward story given that its told from a linear timeline. P5 is told through flashbacks for about half the game. Its well done, but its a method of storytelling that may appeal to less people than a straightforward timeline.

It's obviously a very personal and subjective question. 5 has more effort put into its presentation and elaborate dungeon design and has a bunch of extra gameplay features (more elaborate confidant perks, more options in the Velvet Room, the hold ups, the improved dungeon features like snapping to cover, guns and gun modifications, etc), and it probably makes a better first impression if you found 4 offputting. If forced to choose, I personally prefer 4 overall because parts of 5's later dungeons tend to drag on, but there's not much in it - they're both excellent and worth your time.

Thanks for the answer.

Yes, I really liked the characters and story of P4 Golden, but I just didn't like the gameplay in the dungeons and the battles. Each dungeon felt more like work than fun. So I couldn't really enjoy the story because I quit after 20 hours and now it's hard to start again because I know the beginning, but I'm not that deep into it to start from my old save game.

So if the gameplay and combat are better and more fun in P5, then the story isn't that important to me.
I just want good fights, an interesting story that makes you want to know how it ends, and some nice romances ;)

Based on this, yeah you'll probably enjoy P5R a lot more.

I agree with the general sentiment that the characters and stories in 4 (and especially 3) are generally better written, more interesting and poignant; but the dungeon mechanics and gameplay loop are fairly outdated by modern standards.

I played P5R first and loved it so I then bought and played P4. I did miss alot of the gameplay elements of 5 but the characters were strong enough that I was ok missing those systems. But yes the combat is way better. Also fusing of personas is SUBSTANTIALLY better. There are alot more team combo systems in place during fights in Persona 5. The dungeon design is substantially improved, each dungeon is unique. Though Mementos..... you will either like or dislike that giant side dungeon..... Its very generic, similar in design to P4 dungeons.

I should probably add if you go into P5 blind it is easy to lock yourself out of the true ending, which is an additional semester of gameplay.
It's better in every conceivable way!
