Do Not buy before they remove Denuvo from Persona 5 Royal
I was looking forward to this game. I did research about the game, it's release date, and put it on my calendar. Now that the game has a store page and I read that it has Denuvo, I won't be buying it.

I suggest for those to wait for a deep sale of the game and the removal of Denuvo before buying.
If you can't wait, please be aware that you must be online in order to play this single player game so that they can check that you paid for the game. If the Denuvo service is down or the company that employed it goes out of business, you can't play the game.

Persona 5 released 9/2016 - 6 years ago
Persona 5 Royal released 10/2019 - 3 years ago

I can't fathom why they would need to put DRM on a game this old. People already have pirated the game and patched it to circumvent the DRM. The only reason DRM exists is greed. I wished people didn't have to resort to pirating, but I don't care if people do if it means circumventing anti-consumer practices that only fuels greed.

Games sold very well before Denuvo. Gaming companies would go out of business the moment they release their game, if pirating was the culprit. It's not. Blind fanboyism, ignorance, and corporate greed, are the killers of games.

Customers affected by Denuvo:
  1. Risk of not being able to play the game you purchased.
  2. Poor implementation can affect performance of your game.
  3. Program running in the background.
  4. High risk of this program and business practices getting out of hand.
  5. Needing to "check in" online to verify your purchase.
  6. Not owning what you paid for.*

Pirates affected by Denuvo:
  1. Having to crack Denuvo to circumvent bad business practices or of course, to get the game for free. Typically, difficult to do.

*6.Yes, technically you are paying for the license to play the game, not the game itself. Problem here is that, they still have their tether wrapped around the license you paid for, where denying you access to your license is a real possibility, and they will most likely forget that you paid for this and not refund you. So when someone says they own the game, they are basically saying they bought the license to the game that enables them to access it.
This license is put in place to protect the intellectual property of the game. Making selling copies of a game illegal. This is why all ROMS are free. Even so, sharing ROMS is also illegal. The main idea is to buy the game, and make your own back up copies; this is completely within our rights. Fortunately, companies have no hand in this, but they are trying their damnedest to take that away from you too.
Nintendo of course keeps reselling their old games to justify them attacking ROM sites. Mario 3 is a great game, doubt anyone would want to buy the old cart that may not work after all these years to be able to play it on a non-Nintendo system. Nintendo is the Apple of gaming.

Extra side note for the silly people thinking I'm actually telling them what to do and think I somehow have power over them by saying what I said in the title: Grow up. I can't make you do anything. Buy the game, don't buy the game; I won't lose sleep and I don't care. I made this thread for those who do care about the topic. Plenty do and plenty don't. If you want to troll, you are only providing me with entertainment.

I will be waiting for a huge sale and the removal of Denuvo. This way the company will get the least amount of revenue and I can actually play the game I paid for without having to ask for permission.

Why are people still QQ-ing about denuvo, don't want to buy it then don't, those that want to buy it buy it. It's just that simple. Nobody can decide for you what YOU can buy from YOUR own money.
That's just how business works. If a customer buys a product from me which ends up being a bad experience for them and they say nothing, I'll either keep selling them bad products and risk losing any subsequent sales which is not something I want to happen. At least, not if I'm being a honest salesperson.

Voicing your feedback is an important part of making a game, and this industry as a whole, better.

People who fry about Denuvo are so funny. Companies in the past have removed it later down the line stop crying.

Performance looks promising on Yuzu and Ryujinx with some issues (black screen during battle in Yuzu *with Vulkan*, not present with Ryujinx). The video I watched showed higher fps with Yuzu than Ryujinx in the castle jail area (about 50 fps on Yuzu and 40 fps on Ryujinx). Not bad for day 1 on an i5-8400/1060 system. Or day -5, technically lol.

yeah, things do not look bad for people who wanna get it for free. Playing it on Yuzu in the near future should be easy. The requirements will be significantly higher, obviously, but still, 1080p60 will not take so much and it's still Royal. Not such a far experience from the native one

I hope this will decrease the Denuvo complaints on the forum lol. P4G's took quite a while to stop getting them

While some people really genuinely avoid buying games with Denuvo, we all know a part of the complaints come from how it makes the game harder to crack

I'd like to test it out on my 10900K/3080 system to see how it compares to P5 on RPCS3 out of curiosity but I think I'll wait until Friday since I'll be buying the Steam version. The open areas will be the real performance test. Curious to see if the 60+ fps softlocks will occur on the Switch version as well, since it's locked to 30 fps like Persona 5 was on PS3.

People who make short-sighted comments are so funny. Peoples willingness to wait varies from person to person. Their excitement for something they have been looking forward to may also be killed by this wait and pass up playing the game entirely.

Incentivizing bad business practices will only show them that what they are doing is ok. It's not ok. Give them an inch and they will take a mile.
Seriously why would you care what others do with THEIR money, you're trying forcefully to make people change their minds, when it is their own right to buy or use whatever they want, no matter how good or bad something is.

You have a weird idea of what "forcefully" means. Feel free to ignore those threads?

You should consider, I have ZERO FORCE behind my words on an internet forums. On the other hand, my words have caused some much drama and immature trolling, it's funny.
They are words. Intelligent people consider them and make their own choices. If I had actual force, I wouldn't be wasting my time here. I go straight to Denuvo and shut down their company.

You know everyone has some sort of affect on others....

Perhaps I can lobby something insane like, removing gun control so children can purchase and carry firearms.
How about enabling people to throw all their trash into the rivers, ponds, oceans, and drinking supply?
Or maybe not being able to sue if you find something other than the meal you asked for? condoms, fecal matter, human fingers, blood.

Will you be concerned then? You shouldn't be since this is their right after all. It was my right to spend my money how I wanted and this is the result. You cool with that?

If you counter with, no one is forced to do it. You are correct, but people will do it and will affect you in some way. Not being able to eat at your favorite restaurant, not being able to swim at the beach, or fearing that your child will die at school because they didn't share the blocks.

These are all hypothetical scenarios brought to extreme. The hypothetical scenario I present is Denuvo and other companies greed getting so out of hand that you must always be online to play your games, or must provide sensitive information to prove your purchase, or watch adverts in the middle of your games, not being able to play your purchased games because something broke and they refuse to fix it. You chose to spend your money how you wanted and this is affecting me and gaming.

Previously I said I don't care how one spends their money. I rescind my previous statement. I do care, if it affects me and other things negatively. I'm not going to fight every battle.

How does others buying anything effect you and other things negatively. If you have that kind of attitude then you have some serious problems. Unless you are trolling with that statement I will rescind my statement about you having serious problems.

You'd have to actually read and process the post in order for you to find out the answer. It is there with examples. Give it a try, and I might even consider removing you from being ignored. Otherwise, don't expect me to reply to you. In case you want to troll more, I looked at your hidden post out of morbid curiosity in order to make this reply. Take it easy.

I'll try to summarize in a digest form: It normalizes behaviour they do not agree with. In this case, others tolerating abusive business practices sends a message for corporations it's ok to escalate, which in the end is damaging to the experience of players as a whole.

It's fantastic to be passionate about a hobby. However by shooting down valid criticism that could be leveraged to improve the quality of subsequent releases, blind fanboyism did more damage to the gaming industry than piracy could ever dream of. It's a phenomenon that seems more prevalent in japanese titles aimed at insular communities - i.e. anime. in other forums I usually can discuss business practices in a polite manner just fine even with people disagreeing with me. :clickbutton:
