Can't play with friend?

I feel like an idiot, but I can't figure out how to play this game with my friends, we are both PC players and both own the game, how do we get in the same match? I can't figure out how remote play works.

You don't want to use remote play for that. What remote play does is give access to your digital mouse, keyboard, and maybe controller inputs to your friend, regardless if you have the game or not. You need to click "Invite Friends" on the steam menu, right click on your friends name, click either "Invite to game" or "Join game" and click "Online" on the Bopl menu.

Just bought this game with my friend, and invite does nothing. Totally useless.
