Pistol Vs SMG, Your Opinion?
Does an upgraded pistol do the same damage as the Sten? Which do you prefer? So far I've found headshots with the upgraded pistol to be more effective, and I always have ammo for it without burning through it fast like the Sten.

The pistol does more damage per bullet than the SMG. I think that the SMG does the same or more damage than the pistol if it is upgraded and the pistol isn't, but ultimately I feel that the SMG spends too much ammo per kill to be worth the effort. The upgraded pistol is more reliable and efficient, so I prefer it even though it isn't very flashy.

the pistol is useless unless you need to shoot traps or not waste the last few bullets
infinite dashing+spraying is also too fun to me

Fully upgraded pistol + headshots = Far from useless.
It's my go-to gun even on extreme.

I believe the dev said pistol does slightly more damage per shot. If I could change anything, I'd make them both do the same damage, because pistol is more accurate with less recoil. so it's better to cheaply snipe opponents, whereas smg is good for going rambo close-mid quarters. Some peeps like to underrate pistol in this game like it's doom or duke3d without aimbot.
But understandably the game has sniper weapons for sniping and plenty of ammo for most weapons, especially with secrets. However, it's nice to have alternatives to gamestyle

As far as chapter one goes, smg bursts get me headshots very very fast, and relegates the pistol to shooting traps/not wasting the last ammo, you just use other tools for sniping and burst dmg
If I upgrade the pistol I get an all around tool for the entire game that tops no other gun at their roles but it's a fine choice everytime and saves other guns' ammos since I use those tools less.
Eventually you'll end the game with both guns fully upgraded, given new chapters come out
In other words, while the pistol alt burst costs few weapon parts, you can't go wrong with either gun since you don't have to wait for re4 upgrades for the gameplay to be even remotely good, and don't have to put in hours to learn particular movement tech like special shotgun jumps and such
because one of the strengths of the game is the basic movement and shooting are already good instead of being basic and stiff like in most shooter games
it's just fun to infinitely dash (close enough to someone and do a flying kick to headshot)
tldr, in some situations you want to move and shoot with smg, no constant reloading. other times you'll go back to pistol. you want to stick to pistol? you probably can for 90% of the game, in the sense it's good at everything but tops nothing

In my first run, which im still working on, I fully upgraded the pistol. It is fun to have a cheap sniper, especially with all that ammo you get for it. I want to try a fully upgraded smg next play through because it sounds fun.

Yeah, that is my experience on Normal. I could use the upgraded pistol only for most enemies.

I found the smg in this game to be quite useless.

Different roles to do different things. Overall, I got more mileage out of the C96 pistol because once you get the stock upgrade you can put bullets in heads a lot more reliably over medium range. Popping cultist heads with two or three well-placed shots works nicely.

The Sten works better when you can focus the bullets into one singular target. Like it for Harvesters, and the big brutish beast boys.

Yeah the pistol is amazing, my only issue with it is the sprite is a bit too large.

I found during my first playthroughs and harder difficulties, the pistol would be my go to. But when going speed running through the levels, I prefered the SMG. Pistol for patience, SMG to keep the bullets flowing.

I always prefer being extremely accurate and having high bullet efficiency so I use the pistol more. I also love the style of Red 9 both in appearance and function using stripper clips. It looks good, feels good, and suits my style of play. Sten is also still great since it lets you really get the DPS going, but I only ever used it like two or three times, I was happy it wasn't just a straight upgrade.

It depends on ur playstyle, if you aim to play slower and rely heavily on headshots than go for the pistol but if ur into the classic run and gun up close in personal style use the SMG.

It really feels like everybody attributes the pistol to a slower playstyle.

I only use the Sten now for bigger enemies/ crowd control. Pistol is much better suited for longer range and getting headshots.
