I think the devs did it this way to ensure you get a slightly different experience on the prologue on your eventual second run, to make the "boring to repeat" prologue a little less so.

I just visited a tarot reader and the text said that "the ending of your story isn't decided yet"... seems a pretty strong hint that there'll at least be multiple ending states, likely tied at the very least to your Pride stat.
I've also had dialogue locked with the text saying "because of your choices, this option isn't available", so the game does seem to track your behaviour at least for certain quests.
